P5 GETTING READY TO MAKE IT's MOVE?

Could the P5 Conferences use the current situation as their chance to separate from the rest of the NCAA?

Could they be getting ready to take any doubt out of the question that the business ($$) of big time college sports is the most important issue?

But don’t you think there is still way too much deadweight in the P5? I would think the P5 would carve itself down to about 30-35 programs and maybe even elevate a couple of G5’s annually like Boise UCF Memphis and San Diego State or others that make a splash at the lower level. Gives an Indiana an opportunity to work itself back up along with FAU or USF.

They should shave it down to 36 then make the other 80 plus programs play for 4 spots.  You get elevated and share in all the riches of the Power programs for the next year while 4 programs get demoted for the year.  Rare is the case an Arkansas gets demoted but they would be if they turn out what they have been doing. Create energy at the bottom of the top league and at the top of the next league every year.

My guess is that is will eventually come down to four conference. ND will be the lone independent that will join one of the four. Wonder about these issues -

How do they phase out/demote schools or do you keep them around so every game is not a killer?
Will any of the current G5 schools be "promoted?"
Will the G5 stay separate from the FCS?

Nobody is getting promoted. Probably will see some get demoted (Baylor, TCU, Iowa State, WVU, and Kansas State could be in trouble if the Big XII goes away, while Wazzou, Oregon State, and Cal are probably in trouble if the PAC-12 crumbles).

BYU’s model is the one to watch. They are the o my quasi-power team. Nobody will invite them into a power conference because of their Mormon connections, but other power conferences consider them Power conference qualified for OOC play.

Its possible that we could see a lot of G5 schools go old school and go independent for football, just to call themselves power schools and tell their fans they could end up in a playoff if things went right, even though the chances are incredibly remote. College football is the ultimate monopoly and if you aren’t in the club, you ain’t getting in.  13 programs have won titles since 1996.  Another 4 programs played for a title and didn’t win it since then. 17...out of 66 power teams , when you include BYU.

The G5’s would do very well to let this happen and give our fans, players, and coaches a chance to reward them all with an actual national championship, which would finally let our level of play stop being the only level of any organized football to not get a chance to be a champion.

Makes you wonder what will happen. Will the G5 go along with the P5 in some manner? Do not thing G5 will want to play all of their games against other G5 schools. Could their be a way to keep the FBS schools together? Looks like March Madness will be gone. This will be interesting as there are some really good teams that are not a part of P5 conferences.

I see no reason for the P5 to break away.   They don't like the NCAA, what makes them think they think they can come up with anything better.

The problem with cutting the number of schools is that they would gain little, but a lot more loses.  We already have a pro football league, why would they want to build another?

Take the current P5's, then after a while: start dropping the weaker teams.  End up with a league closer to the pros than any kind of college games.

Does anyone really think that AD's and coaches want to be challenged every game?  Not to mention the much lessened demand for college coaches.
