CHINA - IMPACT ON RELATIONS

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what the Mean Green poster this will/should happen as we and other countries move forward.

Interested to see what the different opinions are and if you think there will be sizable changes, or at the end of the day the cheap labor will win out?

I think we will see an effort to "re-shore" some manufacturing and if not return it to the US, then bring it closer; perhaps Mexico gets a boost.

I think there will be a renewed push for protection of intellectual rights.

This is basically it. Any jobs that are brought back from China will go to Mexico. Anyone sitting around thinking that any meaningful percentage of the manufacturing jobs that have left the US in the past 20-40 years are coming back is delusional.

In these cases jobs to Mexico is better, IMO, than overseas.

I think we will see India manufacturing emerging in the coming years.

I believe the amount of jobs coming back to the US will be impacted by the incentives provided and the outcome of the November elections. Both parties have major differences in the types of industries they are backing for future growth.

The USA is way too dependent on China and the virus has just highlighted that.

The USA will slowly reduce that dependence because that is the only way that it can happen.   Can't cut China loose till a more reliable source is available.

Capitalism will still dictate going to a low cost alternative.  Hopefully, multiple sources will be developed and not a great dependence on any one or two nations.

I don't think Mexico is that great a source, medicine is not labor intensive.  Hopefully, the legislature will mandate USA sourcing for a sizeable portion of the market.

Especially true when it comes to rare earth elements that are used in everything from the military to smart phones.  We get the vast majority of them from China.
