Wish I had data from last twenty years, profiling HC hires with no prior college HC/cOordinator experience. The success rate can’t be good. I also speculate a high percentage of them were hyper-successful at the high school level.

that kind of resume strikes me as a gamble, and I believe ADs know it.

He had a program at Gilmer where he would get kids with rough backgrounds to be sponsored by members of the community. A kid I played little league through 9th grade was one of these kids. His sophomore year he moved to "Dallas", but his junior and senior year he was living with an older couple in Gilmer. They gave him a car, and bought him pretty much whatever he wanted. Our little league coach passed away a few years ago, and he was telling us all of the details at the funeral visitation. I had heard similar stories when I was in high school, but to hear this account first hand from a former player was ridiculous.

Shoot that’s way too much work compared to now.

Nowadays the certain “members of the community” simply rent the entire family an extremely cheap house until the player is done.  Once residency is confirmed along with a clear PAPF form from his/her previous school the deal is done.

Some of these “communities”,,...usually the same ones you see in the playoffs every year,... have this down to a science.

The sickening thing is the UIL knows this is going on but refuses to do a thing about it.
