CHANGES TO THE REDSHIRT RULES?

  • El Paso Eagle changed the title to CHANGES TO THE REDSHIRT RULES?

I fear that it might indeed be the case that SL used neither the redshirt rule nor the transfer portal to his maximum advantage. That is not a good sign as to his capacity to adjust to new rule developments in terms of off-the field stuff.

The combination is particularly troublesome, because with both rules combined, if you don't redshirt players during their freshman ear, you essentially got potential free agents on the team later on as they can start the season and decide to transfer out without penalty. If they redshirted already, there is a penalty.

We redshirted more than 35 players and will see a drastic improvement next year.

UNT wasn't smart enough to use it and did a massive disservice to Mason Fine.

Wrong Dana Holgorsen did a massive disservice to D’Eric King and 35 other players to advance his own career. This isn’t the NFL, these are college students that are delaying the start of their professional lives (whether it be in football or not) for a selfish football coach trying to fluff his resume to get back to P5.

People could question if Mason Fine should have never played the first year. Remember his first year there was no 4 game rule.. once you played you played unless injured and you could apply for medical redshirt.

But I do not fault the staff for playing him. He had a great year, and helped the team perform to a level we did not expect.
