That worked out great the last time we had it.

It worked out great until McCarney and Chico ran out of Todd Dodge-coached quarterbacks. McCarney’s downfall was meddling in the quarterback situation. If you recall, our defense was still damn good at the start of the 2014 season. It wasn’t until the dismal offense wore them down that their play started to fade. They ended the college careers of David Ash and June Jones in the first two weeks of the season. I think if Mac/Chico had done a better job with the offense, we’d have had a string of bowl wins.

Defense wins championships, just ask every national champ of the playoff era. There is a reason that the highly revered (and I like him too) Mike Leach has never won an outright division or conference championship in his 18 years as a head coach.

Now don’t get me wrong the defense can’t do it without an average to above average offense. But even the best offense won’t win you jack without a good to great defense.

Only at North Texas would fans be so foolishly intoxicated with shiny things........and an average finnish of 6th place.

Did you really just screen shot Todd Dodge? You think Dodge and Seth are in the same category and level? Lmao

Seth is still over 500 as a coach. 3 out of 4 year bowl games. We had an injury plagued year. And are obviously not content. The candidates being thrown around for DC are exciting.

We only have our own past to compare to.
Unfortunately, today's offenses (with the exception of the triple-option) do not satisfy the old-school guys' appetites for defense first, and establishing the run to set up the run again.

Laugh your ass off all you want.  It should sound about like what the 25 Rice fans were doing as we left through the gates back to our cars.

Our past two eras of offense first philosophies have earned us an average of 6th place and a slap on the back.

Our past two defense-first philosophies earned us 4 conference championships, 5 bowls and 2 bowl wins.

And outside of losing Bussey for the season in week 3 who else did we not have by the Charlotte game that made this any more of an injury-plagued season than any other team had at that point of the year?

Bloomgren's getting a bunch of players from outside of Texas.  He'll get his team up to 6-6/7-5 level and plateau there.

We'll see about Clark.  He's a fantastic coach, and still had a handful of old guys playing for him this year.   His main offensive weapon was Spencer Brown who is graduating this year.   His offense could look completely different next year.

Like it or not, if you want to attract top Texas talent, you need to run a similar type of offense to what they run in high school so they can identify with what you're doing.  Littrell does that, and the talent is starting to come in.

Also, no one has a problem with the offense or defense when we're smashing UTSA 45-3... it's only when we're losing.

I respectfully disagree, Clrak's team size made us look small.  They consistently recruit p5 caliber players and they have figured out that an elite G5 program has to recruit the transfer and juco market successfully.   Everyone said he would falter last season too and look what happened.  Clark and his staff gets "it".  We are still figuring "it" out.

I have a problem every time we get curb stomped by a decent team!

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with.   Some of the size is the remnant of his redshirt Seniors from previous classes with clock stoppage.  He's losing the rest of those guys this year (like that Marino guy who gave our OL fits both times we played them).
With Spencer Brown gone next season, do you still anticipate a heavy dose of the run game on offense from them?

None of Seth Littrell's doings. He should be at 2 of 4 given there has been 2 winning seasons. He was gift wrapped the HOD in 2016. He's a .500 coach with 2 losing seasons and 2 winning seasons. As it sits, and the evidence we CURRENTLY have, next season will be another losing season and this fan base will fully turn on SL as they should.

Maybe it’s my “Old-Schoo” mindset but l would think a kid would be willing to do whatever is asked and play in whatever system he’s recruited to for a chance to............1) Play,.....and 2) win?

I mean, regardless of where they are coming from UAB and Rice seem to get them to buy in,..and Rice is doing it with one hand tied behind their back on the academic front.

Add in having a winning record**

Winning record. That doesn't matter. That's hog wash. If you have 7-5 and lose your bowl game to finish 7-6 with no conference championship, bowl trophy and clearly nowhere near the top 25 what good is it really? None. The answer is none.
