He also brought us the most embarrassing loss in the history of D1 football.

You are what your record says you are. MAC was 30 games under .500 as a HC when he was hired. Not a shock he didn’t improve on that in his time here.

I still completely believe that Mac thought this was gonna be a USF starter kit type situation. Lots of talent locally, brand new stadium, and Hayden Fry roots from decades ago. Then he got here and his optimism just kept waning and waning. We beat him down. He became pessimistic Dan within 3 years. TX Hs coaches liked him but almost nobody played a style of football like he coaches in this state, so the losing mounted and the recruiting kept plummeting and we got Portland state’d in the worst way possible. But make no mistake, DMac changes his positive vibes and messages from Year 1 to almost the polar opposite by year 4.

He  was affected by an eye infection that resulted in hole in his cornea which eventually led to a glass eye, a stroke after exercising in Apogee, and a heart attack while climbing stairs in the athletic center, all prior to the 2013 season and the death of his brother shortly afterward.

He had a new large guaranteed contract after the HOD Bowl victory and I believe was fairly ready to cash out and get payed very well during retirement. Maybe he didn't plan it as such but it sure worked out for him that way.

The fascination over Tauaefa is because he was the one we *knew* about and can point to our grandkids 40 years from now and tell them for the tenth time "see that guy? he coulda been here."

And they're all like, "GRANDPAAA I thought 7 on 7 ruined North Texas football!"

<scene>

Obviously McCarney missed out on multiple Tauaefas, otherwise 2015 would have gone differently. But y'all go ahead and shed a tear every time he tackles someone on CBS, this is America after all, I've got enough tears to shed for this season.

While we're piling on - Let's not forget about how Dodge had Olawale on the team and only managed to get the ball into his hands 8 times in his career. (Jamize is now 7 years into an NFL career with the Cowboys giving him a 3 year extension in March.)
