ABOUT THE HOUSTON BLOWOUT

If one did not attend the game, did not watch it on TV nor listen to it on the radio but only read the stats one might think it was a very close game and that maybe North Texas even won the game.

Houston was no doubt bigger, faster and stronger. But these stats show a very competitive game.

FIRST DOWNS    UH 17   UNT 20

TOTAL YARDS     UH 359 UNT 457

TIME OF POSSESSION  UH 27.02

                                           UNT 32.58

SPECIAL TEAMS LOST THIS GAME

yeah and when you look at it, it should've been a 1 score game. Just too many mental errors this year, but mainly in this game

Yes and no.  Special teams cost us any chance we had of staying in the game, but that's 2 complete drives that they had no offensive plays to produce stats.  Additionally, giving them the ball at the 40+ on the other kicks didn't leave much room for stat accumulation.

Mooney did nail a 41 yarder, then a 46 yarder in the first half.   Both very impressive.

Outside of those though... yeah, suck.

You're absolutely right about that and I should have given credit to the field goal kicking unit.  Mooney has been a rock this year.  I also was factoring in the two missed 2-point conversion.  Would those be considered special teams?  I dunno.  Whatever they are, those two plays ruined any momentum we generated out of the TDs.

Blowout? BLOWOUT?

Blowout is when you pop a tire, pull over, get the spare, pop it on, and move on knowing you've got a 100-200 repair bill in your future. Inconvenient? sure. Fixable? you bet.

This game. Our first qurarter. Our collective non-FCS/UTSA work... this is that drunk guy driving a 1988 toyota tercel hatchback with a mismatched hood plowing into you from behind, shoving you into the brand new Mercedes-Benz G-class (purchased as a graduation present for the SMU grad driving it). Then running away because he lacked insurance, leaving you with the bill.

This season has been near catastrophic (compared to what we SHOULD be doing) and we sorely need more than a lil' fixing. We need the texas hammer to pull our ass out of this rut.

Special teams was terrible, but as one poster said  we would have probably given up another TD at least when they got the ball at the 40 each time.

What was the main problem was that UH’s DLine was basically playing fullback for our offense on almost every snap. We couldn’t run between the tackles and Fine was running for his life when he wasn’t getting crushed into the turf.
