Why do we slam Trump for his choice of words when he has been called a racist, a xenophobe, a bigot, a misogynist, Hitler, etc. etc. etc. Whether we admit it or not, we are all racists. Some much more than others. That does not excuse bad behavior, but it is the Socialist/Democratic party that fosters this type of behavior on a much larger scale. I'll never forget the image of young, Mexican children lining the streets where Trumps motorcade was traveling holding signs and yelling "Fu&% Trump!" Fu&% Trump!" Do you EVER see conservatives doing this? No. Even at the height of the Tea Party and Obama's occupation, you NEVER saw that type of behavior where people are attacked my masked fools, buildings burned, property destroyed, people threatened with their lives for having opposing viewpoints. Dems foster this and have made no effort to hide the fact they want to do away with the Second Amendment and the Constitution in general. THAT is why Trump got elected. Not because were all racist. Because we want a strong economy, lower taxes, a strong military and a leader with backbone who wont back down from people and governments who continually take advantage of us economically politically and militarily. We have liberated and helped countries with billions of dollars and have for decades. No, Trump isn't perfect but clear thinking people will look at our economy, the stock market, the opportunity to succeed. Trump isn't perfect, the country isn't perfect and we are not perfect. We do the best we can and don't want the government dictating how to run our lives. Some people want to be victims because I suppose it's easier than getting off your ass and working hard to make yourself a success. If we're constantly looking to blame others for our situation, then we're destined to fail. Trump has lifted this country out of economic doldrums and, in my opinion loves his country and wants everyone to love it as he does. What's wrong with that? Why would a billionaire leave his cushy surroundings to take the shit he takes on a daily basis? To destroy lives? To oppress others? BS! He does it so we can all share the bounty this country has to offer while getting government out of the way of our right to pursue happiness. If some would rather be "victims" so be it.

Thank you. That is all. Oh,

GO MEAN GREEN!

When comparing the treatment of Trump to Obama you are creating a false equivalence.

At no time during Obama's presidency was he accused in court of raping a 13 year old child.

Trump was. Along with 21 other sexual assault allegations.

At no time did videos surface of Obama partying with a guy that has been found guilty of raping children.

But Trump of course did.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUDr_c2PalI

At no point did one of Obama's businesses defraud people out of their hard earned money.

But Trump?

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/federal-court-approves-25-million-trump-university-settlement-n845181

At no point did Obama inherit 450 million dollars from his father and not pay taxes on it. Nor did Obama claim that he was a self-made man that only got a 1 million dollar loan from his father.

Trump?

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/10/02/us/politics/donald-trump-tax-schemes-fred-trump.html

Obama did not have pretty much his entire staff quit on him inside of two years.  Nor have multiple close associates going to prison.

Obama did not go on Howard Stern and brag about his infidelity.  Obama did not go on Howard Stern.

Obama did not tell American citizens to go back to their country.

The list just goes on and on. My point is that there is a very good reason for people to treat Trump like garbage because he very much IS garbage.  As for Obama there is PLENTY politically and ideologically I disagreed with him on but I never questioned his integrity and character.  There will always be varying amounts of political discourse and anger in this country and frankly we should not have it any other way. Heated debate only makes us stronger.  The complete rage directed at Trump is more about the character of the man.  He has displayed over and over again to be a terrible human being.

I agree with you on many points. But I didn't vote for Trump as Pope. Not do I look to him for moral guidance. If he is guilty of crimes, he should be held accountable. But you know what? He hasn't been found guilty of anything.

I refer to Obama as the Deceiver in Chief. And the press is/was complicit. Never a word about Bill Ayres, Jerimah Wright, Al Sharpton, Louis Farakhan, the list goes on. Racists and anti-semites all. Was he a Muslim? Debatable. But with a name like Barak Hussein Obama, what do you think. So I'll just cling to my guns and Bible, content in the knowledge that I didnt get fooled by that bamboozler who told me i could keep my doctor and my health insurance.

Trump may be some of the things you claim, but at least you know what your getting. I hate liers.

And this says a lot about you, "Brah." If you can't admit your shortcomings, then you're just as big a denier as the rest of your ilk. And I said "we are ALL racist" to an extent, not to justify racism or explain it away, but as a statement of fact. It would do me no use, to you anyway, to say I have several black friends, which I do and I think dearly of them. That's why they are my friends. I treat people as individuals and take them on their own merit rather than paint with a broad brush. "Racist" should not be used as a fall back when you can't win an argument.

Sorry about no paragraphs, nephew Laurie. I'm not writing a term paper.

Yes, yes, yes.  Oh, and I hate that the Dims that stomp their feet at the accusations against Trump yet celebrated a known sexual predator in Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary that covered for him all in the name of power and politics.  The Trump win was all about policy just as his comments to "The Squad" about leaving if you aren't happy with how things are done in the U.S.  If Obama had said this to four white freshmen Congressmen/women, it would just be a comment and not racist, but because Trump is white and "The Squad" is comprised of ladies whose families came from elsewhere, he is labelled racist.  Funny how the CEO of Black Entertainment Television supports our president.

it may end up being the case. I'll at least emerge as intellectually, ethically and principally consistent.

the fiscal conservative "moral" majority either has to reconcile the fact that they've traded principle for party...or just admit that wrapping themselves in the flag and the bible has been simply to cloak their inherent nationalism/racism/sexism/bigotry.

I guess that's between you and your "god"

I have a clear understanding of how it works and how it works in today's society.  It's become a term that is thrown around at every chance.  I think you may be the one missing the boat here.  Obviously, we aren't going to see eye to eye on this, but you bolded comments that were not racist in any way, shape or form.

To me, such a pedestrian, simplistic view.

I think you may need to reconcile the fact that the public was presented with basically two reprehensible choices for President.  Both with major personal and ethical faults.

You may also need to reconcile the fact that it is possible to hold fiscally conservative views and socially liberal views while not approving of or condoning boorish, xenophobic, non-presidentail behavior, or--*sigh*--wrapping oneself in the flag.  But our job here at GMG is to paint everything with a broad talking-point brush, right?  Seeing as it's an anthropological study and all?

Every country gets the government it deserves.  If you don't like it, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

November 2020 will be here before we know it.  Do your thing.

Biden wins 2020 in a landslide if he's the nominee.
Although we're a silent bunch, I believe there is a VAST majority of people who are disillusioned with today's extremely polarized political landscape.   Biden is about as close to the center as you can get out of everyone running.

However, if Democrats continue to torpedo Biden at every chance they get, and America is presented with any one of the other nominees that are much further left, it's going to be a very tight race & we could certainly see 4 more years of Trump simply due to the economy.

I think you're mis-interpreting my statement...might be my fault.

I fully understand why Trump won the election and don't begrudge one's voting decision, no matter how much I disagree.

What I do begrudge is the people and party who for the last 20 years (probably more...that's basically my personal consciousness) have attempted to present themselves as morally righteous...if not down-right superior...now bending over backwards to excuse and justify boorish, xenophobic, RACIST, non-presidential behavior.

You personally may not approve or condone it, but many do...many have actually been motivated by his words and actions...see the recent "Send Her Back" chant started at Trump's recent rally directed towards Omar.  Trump stokes the crowd's fears and prejudices with gross mischaracterizations of Omar's statements and the largely lily white crowd responds with a bare-minimum xenophobic chant.

Maybe you don't approve, but your silence is complicity.

I have to second this. Desmond Tutu and Martin Luther King have numerous statements about how the people who sit inactively are almost as bad as those who actively take part.

Standing on the sidelines of this while friends and loved ones could be targeted next is like being a blocker and letting defenders walk past you to hit the QB. That LB might not be looking for you, but you're just as much to blame for that sack if you don't make that block.

1.  Glad you are not lumping me in with those foul folk.  Thank you.

2.  Read my comments in this thread.  I have not been silent or excused anything.  In fact, just the opposite.  You want people to jump up and down and parrot what you believe to be true, which is that his comments were racist.

On their face, they are not.  Juvenile, petty, divisive, and appalling, yes.  However, considering who he directed them to, I believe they can definitely be construed that way, and I believe they come across that way.  I don't presume to know if that is how he intended them.  Apparently you do, and good for you if so.  Bad for everyone else though.

So now having said that--why don't you come out and say what you really meant to say in your last sentence above?

I mean that “I find my stress level is better managed when I don't worry about what the head clown writes on his twitter feed.  The public knew what they were getting when they elected him.” isn’t what I interpret as a vocal denouncement.

I honestly don’t know if his initial twitter rant was implicit or accidental racism. (For the record, I’ll say the same thing for Omar’s word choices in discussing Israel...she did walk back diction after it was pointed out).

What I do know is that telling people of color to go back to where they came from is unequivocally racist and he has subsequently doubled and tripled down...as he has with numerous other cases of racist dog-whistles.

I don't think that's what you meant at all, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt--which is something you seem unwilling to do for me.

But really--who made you arbiter of the degree of intensity of disagreement with the actions, words, and deeds of elected leaders anyway?  We still live in a free country don't we?  It's still not quite state controlled and there's not a loyalty requirement yet is there?  I don't have to hang anyone's picture in my home, do I?  Do you not see the irony in what you're saying in your first paragraph?  Scary, man!

Look, my point was that we have a great system that allows folks a limited time in office.  We have a government system where there are checks and balances on knuckleheads and their actions.  I'm not going to get worked up over someone who has done and said the same things to varying degrees for decades.  It's a fool's errand.  Nobody here has to prove anything to you, and frankly, your suggestions of harbored "tacet" views are offensive and unwarranted.

Regarding your second statement above:  Thank you.  Neither do I.

I've already addressed your third paragraph.

Lastly, I do like sparring with you guys from time to time, but don't take anything I say personally.  If you do, I'll be in section 211 in case you want to try and whup mah ass.

The entire issue should not even be an issue.  We were all taught how to treat one another.  We are all here together, like it or not.  We are either going to make things work or we will not.  I choose to believe that we will come together and solve our problems.  The divisiveness and hate that runs through these and other comments are sad.  We are all human beings and made in God's image, if you are a believer, and we are called to Love thy neighbor as thyself.  We may have differences but the things we have in common are much more than the things that divide us, yet we dwell on the divisions.  We have no leadership in Washington and what we do have is a disgrace.  I am an American and I want what is best for ALL Americans, not the rich, not the privilege, not corporations but ALL Americans, you included..............

Be careful. He is the intellectual, ethical and principled guidepost of GMG.com, even above the God he doesn’t believe in. That’s my issue with his posts. If you don’t share the same point of view/political standards then you are immediately beneath him. So funny yet so tiresome.

if you think that I meant to call you, LongJim, personally racist...you're wrong. I haven't seen you fighting on the "c'mon, we're all a little racist" hill. plus, we've both been posting here long enough and for the most part I pay enough attention to know better.

as for who made me arbiter...I don't know...a stupid internet message board? if my opinions/challenges/stances/philosophies were little more than trolling, I'd have long gone the way of CheckFacts, TFLF and EulessEagle. we absolutely don't have to agree, but I read your statement as basically saying "meh, what can you do?" if I'm wrong, please correct me

I agree our system is meant to balance contrasting views. I think a debate about taxes and healthcare and economic policy is healthy. I don't think rationalizing a racist remark because it came from a person on my team is finding balance. If you're offended by that...maybe you should be.

The challenge I see in today's political boxing matches...is the jump to knowing the motives behind what someone says. And this goes for both sides (right and left)

So to this particular tweet from the president....

I lived in Birmingham for a while. I'm from Texas. If I had told the same group of people over and over:

"man the humidity sucks here"

"the Mexican food is terrible...ya'll need better choices"

"I can't believe it costs $800 for vehicle registration...it should be $75"

"The water department is a joke here...you should have a better option"

"Hey guy I keep telling this to...you're a real a**hole by the way and not nearly as good a person as me."

over and over and over and over.....

The logical reply to me may be from that local that is sick of hearing me complain and sick of being called an a**hole:

"dude...if you're so miserable here...why don't you go back to Texas if it's so great"

There is ZERO in that statement that has anything to do with race.

So the trick is you have to have a predetermined opinion about the person from Birmingham that said that and you have to just know (without really knowing but think you know) the motives behind his statement. If I already think that guy is racist because all my friends tell me he's a racist then it really doesn't matter what he says...I will always come into the situation from the point of view that the guy is racist.
