This article makes a provocative and perhaps compelling argument regarding the G5 / P5 power chase. Very readable. However in Texas football is king and there is no shortage of ten-gallon pride regardless of Conference or program size.  For Mean Greeners there is as much rabid passion for beating SMU in a Safeway parking lot as there is in sucker- punching the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Temple fan here - PennLive is not a local paper, and the writer is a PSU writer that constantly puts down Temple.

Absolutely zero chance Temple leaves AAC - they’re actually successful in football and enjoy being in the conferences.

Appreciate the update.  Any thoughts on how the AAC proceeds?  Consensus is always "we don't need anyone else" but I wonder if that holds true for schools like Temple in the East.

To make a local comparison, this would be equivalent to the Waco Tribune saying UNT should drop to FCS

Yeah. But I would liken Penn State to ATM rather than Baylor. Baylor = Pitt. ATM = Penn State. But I get the sentiment, and I wouldn't put it past Waco or College Station papers stating that about UNT. They clearly don't feel threatened by UNT or otherwise they would have already. Those meddling P5's are all about keeping their foot on top of the heads of the drowning at all costs.
