Who could replace Tom Bowen as Memphis athletics director?

Wren Baker

Baker was hired by the University of North Texas as vice president and athletics director in July 2016.

Before that, he served as deputy athletics director of external affairs from 2013-15 as well as deputy athletics director at Missouri beginning in 2015.

During his time in Memphis, Baker helped the Tigers secure the largest gift in the university's history, finished with a record fundraising year, and set a new mark for suite sales and multimedia rights revenue.

Since Baker's hiring, the North Texas football team has reached a bowl game in all but one season.

Say what?  He's been at UNT for 3 seasons--2016, 2017, and 2018--and UNT has reached a bowl game every year.

EDIT: I contacted the writer, and, to his credit, he made a prompt correction.

The article mentions McClelland from La Tech who would be a nice hire if he is interested in the job. I had always heard that he was waiting for a SEC opening but a move like this could make sense as it would probably double his salary.  I think he does a nice job with the resources he is given.

You realize our goal is to keep Wren, right?  Maybe go back and mention the two blow-out losses.  LOL

Just came across another article on Memphis candidates. Seems like they know it would be hard to get WB away from here.

https://dailymemphian.com/article/5133/Potential-candidates-on-radar-to-replace-Tom-Bowen-as-U-of-M-Athletic-Director

unlikely but familiar faces:

Wren Baker - North Texas - Athletic Director

One of the top young athletic director’s in the nation, Baker is in a similar situation as Alnutt. He has a solid job with the potential to jump to a Power Five opening in the future. Many in Memphis hold him in a high esteem after he worked under Bowen, but it seems unlikely he ends up involved with the open job.

Good find -- also noticed the reason why Bowen stepped down had been released:

Quote

Tom Bowen, former University of Memphis athletic director, resigned four days after university officials received a letter citing flirtatious behavior between Bowen and an unnamed individual during a women’s basketball road trip.
