Mccasland has just not been winning head to head recruiting battles against noteworthy schools.

And he thought our roster was set and deep enough to take a guy in Shakeem Alcindor who no one else wanted and who put up pedestrian stats at a prep school that played very questionable competition. And at the beginning of the year he thought we had quality enough depth to be able to redshirt Mohamed and Wise when in reality his depth was made up of guys who have proven to be well below average CUSA level players in guys like J Simmons, Arikawe, and Draper.

I agree.

Who has McCasland been recruiting against?  I hear very little about any of our recruits, except Jackson.  In fact, who else are we actively recruiting?  Tiko has been an injury in uniform and we really don't know what we have in Alcindor, Wise and Mohamed.  He is going to have to go the JUCO route again to find some size that can play.

J Simmons, to hear all the rah-rah about him coming here with McCasland, is a liability on the offensive end and a foul waiting to happen on defense.  Draper is a feel good story, but would be an end of bench player anywhere else.  Arikawe can give you a solid 10 or so minutes a night, but more than that and he is overexposed.  I didn't even see him in the box score.  Why did he not play?

I think the biggest issues in Mccasland building the program have been recruiting and over-estimating players we have. Much like Littrell’s first few recruiting cycles, Mccasland has just not been winning head to head recruiting battles against noteworthy schools.

You can analyze every angle, but based on how we finished last year, the play of Smart has been a killer. If he would just post !/2 his stats how many more games do we win? We don't hit from the perimeter , we are done. No size and really no power or strength.

I would claim that Smart needs to be benched....but then as BillySee keeps pointing out we have NOBODY else stepping up or talented enough to replace him with.

The last 3:30 of last night's game was incredibly frustrating.  We had one guy on the floor who was making shots (Gibson) and he didn't take a shot in that closing stretch.  Instead we got to watch Smart, Duffy and Draper jack up missed three after missed three.  Smart is ICE cold, AND he forces so many shots on bad looks.  At least when Duffy and Draper are missing they are missing on open looks and it's the right basketball decision.  Smart looks completely lost out there.
