Hillenbrand Invitational

Game 5 - North Texas vs. UTEP

North Texas used a 14-hit attack to trounce Texas El-Paso 9-1 in second-day action at the Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.

UNT improved to 1-1 in tourney play and 7-23 overall. UTEP dropped to 0-3 and 3-10 after losing both is Saturday games.

North Texas' Susan Waters doubled to lead off the second inning, and scored after Kelei Walker's single. Walker rounded first and was caught at second, but Waters reached home and beat a tag after the 1-3-5-4 pickoff.

Katy Maxy scored on a balk by Malia Simmons and Heather Bostic hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 in the third.

UTEP scored with a double by Kristin Hardy and an RBI single by Jennifer Garcia in the bottom of the third.

A two-run single by Christen Jonse and a run-scoring single by Maxy inreased the lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth, and the Panthers added their final runs on an RBI single by Ana Vega and a two-run single by Daneille Rupp.

Hillenbrand Invitational

Game 6 - Indiana vs. North Texas

Karly McCormack and Lauren Hines put together a couple of rallies at the plate to help Indiana beat North Texas, 8-3, in Saturday action at the Hillenbrand Invitational.

Hines' run-scoring double staked the Hoosiers to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, after McCormack had singled. Hines followed a McCormack single with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and the Hoosiers picked up an unearned run on a Abby Stark single to push the lead to 4-0. McCormack doubled to drive in a run in the fifth after a double by Tory Yamaguchi, and Mariangee Bogado singled to score McCormack and make it 6-0.

Katy Maxey, and Brittany Chapman singled for UNT in the bottom of the fifth, and both scored on a single by Stephanie Cranmer, who advanced to second on an error in the outfield on the play. Heather Bostic's single moved Cranmer to third, and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Susan Waters to cut the lead to 6-3. . Indiana came back and tacked on a couple more runs with two hits and the benefit of two errors in the top of the sixth.The Hoosiers improved to 7-9 and 2-0 in tourney action. UNT dropped to 7-24 and 1-2. Indiana was to meet Arizona in the game immediately following.
