DRC: Breaking down the New Mexico Bowl

USA TODAY reports that of the $18.6 million in payout CUSA received, $15.4 was from top tier  bowl games they did not play in. In addition,CUSA racked up a combined $5.2 million in expenses, and if not for getting a share of the 6 major bowls who paid out $465 million, would have been $2 million short in covering expenses. I think the future of G5 programs is looking grim. Why would the P5 programs continue to give us a piece of their bowl pie? When existing TV contracts expire with the major conferences in a few years, and another round of realignment hits the rich will get richer. The G5 programs will get little from T.V., probable nothing from the major bowls, and become in essence a gate revenue sport. With coaches salaries increasing,  expenses rising, and overall attendance declining, it will be difficult if not impossible to financially support this business model.Just an old man's opinion.

They need us to keep amateur status protection.  Without that, they would be open to workman's comp claims, long term insurance demands, unionization of players, players could sue for name/likeness rights and compensation, a ton of things.

People think the P5 want to be the NFL minor leagues.  No one watches the minor leagues.  Not in baseball, not in basketball, not in any sport, and for sure not in football.

ETA:

They already have everything they want from the G5.  They have control of all the TV money.  They have control of playoff access.  They have the ability to make rules for all of FBS without the G5 voting.  This is the peak for the P5.  The only think left for them to do is trim off the bottom of the P5 and form the P4.

If you guys run a true 34, it's not like ours.   Our defense is the 335 defense from Rocky Long's tree.
I looked to see if you guys had played SDSU recently, and you did in 2016, but y'all were also 3-9 that year, so obviously, much has changed.

We moved a SS down to be a "4th linebacker," which makes it look like a 3-3-5, even though on run plays they line up in a 3-4.  So, yeah, it is a lot like Rocky's [whom USU played against both when he was at UNM and at SDSU].

SDS has had USU's number over the years [I think we've only beaten them once], and they've been in Logan I think only 3 times in the last 40-50 years.
