C-USA men's basketball deserves more national respect

HUNTINGTON — Commissioner Judy MacLeod thinks Conference USA men's basketball is better than the national perception and she wants it to get more respect.

To achieve that, C-USA went with a unique scheduling format.

"It's really just one of our strategic initiatives to improve basketball," MacLeod said in a Monday interview at the C-USA Basketball Tip-Off event in Frisco, Texas. "I know our basketball is better than what some perceive it to be. We've had great success in the NCAA Tournament. We had half our programs win 20-plus games last year."

C-USA actually had six 20-game winners last season among its 14 members, but MacLeod's point was made.

Of the six big winners, only Marshall University (25-11) got into the NCAA Tournament, the Thundering Herd receiving an automatic ticket as the conference tournament winner.

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      I can't blame them, the system in place allows them to profit and to move freely. We may not like it, but it's the system. I'm hoping schools taking over the collectives, it's already happening for reasons I stated above, will usher in contracts and buy outs for players. We've opened Pandora's box so we aren't going back to amateur sports, the best we can get out of it is payment on our investments.

      Agree, there was some semblance of programs doing the right thing and following the rules even though they were always getting busted for violations, and everyone knew cheating was going on. It's why I was saying the veil is off now, and making everyone play by those rules has supercharged the whole thing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the schools aren't supposed to work with NIL collectives to get players right? But everyone including UNT is 100% working with these collectives to send out deals to players. Same kind of fake rule following like we used to have, just more of it now.

      I’m not the type who’s going to say, “I’m done with college sports” and that be it. I’m moreso the guy whose interest is just going to wane to the point that I don’t watch anymore. It would actually free up a lot of time that I could be more productive🤣🤣
