Amazing the Daily gives us a reason but that other guys says nothing

That isn't something an ethical reporter says unless he has a significant amount of confirmation.  Hopefully the Daily writer was confident in his sources.

Wonder why a sports writer at a college newspaper should be held to higher standards than most of the national press.

Because if he likes direct access to coaches & likes them to answer his questions with honesty instead of just cliches or go-to-hell side eye, he may want to check what he releases.

The "national press" is more about entertainment than reporting news.  The Right watches Fox to hear what the Right wants to hear.  The Left watches CNN to hear what the Left wants to hear.  We should expect better from a college newspaper.

This kid has scooped Vito so many times that the research and development team over at Kellogg's Raisin Bran is recruiting him.  If he says it was violation of team rules, I believe him.

I don't think he, nor his editor, would allow this to reach print without confirmation.
