QB Kane Hardin Quits Football to Start Coaching

Really liked his tape out of Irving MacArthur and was hoping we would've offered him out of HS. Regardless, we're down a QB now, even if he wasn't going to see any time on the field. Best of luck to him in his coaching career

It's pretty odd to give a "coaching position" to a Sophomore undergrad, no? I am confused by this move. Is it really a coaching position? Or some internship/unpaid thing? 

I don't think I've ever seen this before.

I guess this is a case of UNT simply having too many talented QBs to give proper reps to, and likely giving it straight to one of them, and asking what they could do for him. Wouldn't be surprised if they offered a position move first. Since he wanted to get into coaching, this was a logical move. Don't know if there is any money in being an undergrad assistant coach (if there is it won't be much), but I would guess that you still at least get to travel with the team a bit, and indeed do get to learn the coaching ropes quite a bit.

His dad was my junior high coach and I recently ran into Kane in our hometown of Irving. Good kid, if he’s like his dad he’ll be a good coach. One of the better passing QBs my alma mater has had in a while. Wish him the best of luck!
