Wilson Signs 3 Year Deal With 49ers

Seems like a bad deal to me. Why sign a three year contract close to the league minimum with no or little guarantees?  The average NFL career is 5-6 years.  Shorter for running backs.  What is the benefit in limiting your upside when you are at the bottom of the pay scale? Granted I am short on details but outside of it being guaranteed money this makes no sense.

As an UDFA whoever he signs with will have his rights as an exclusive rights FA for 3 years at the league minimum with no guarantees (unless they cut him or non-tender him then whoever signs him would have his exclusive rights for the remainder of the 3 years). So either way he is forced to get the league minimum for 3 years so this will at least potentially give him a little more if he makes it every year. However even though it is a “3 year contract” it is still basically a year to year contract with no guarantees. So in essence he is signing the same 1 year deal that other UDFA sign for with the potential to make a little more.

I think this is all good news.  Yes, it is just above league minimum.  But it does show that the 49ers see something in him to get this done.  UNT doesnt get guys that often in the NFL.  So, for Jeff to get a shot is awesome.

What kind of deal did Dubar sign with the Cowboys?  I wonder if it was much different than this.
