We've got a really good list going of things to do, but there are also some things to avoid. New Orleans has very weird hustle culture, with an ever churning group trying to run various scams. At first it might seem fun to give a guy a dollar for a classic joke, but you quickly get noted as a mark and the hustle can quickly move from fun to intimidating to a crime.
"Know where you get dem' shoes?"
"I bet I can spell your first name"
"Let me shine those shoes"
"Hold this hat"
"I'm just trying to get some food" "I'm trying to get home" "The shelter is full tonight"
Wastes of Money
"Any Ministry" or "non-profit" "kids in the same color shirt with donation buckets"
The Bourbon Street construction project is bad.
It looks like the 200, 300, & 400 block are closed. There are sidewalks to access the businesses, but street itself is closed.
There is a good chance the 200 block and maybe even the 300 block will be open by December 15th.
So in finding home bars, we may want to look further down the street in the 600 & 700 blocks like Bourbon Heat, Cats Meow, Crazy Corner, Pat O'Briens, Saints & Sinners, and Tropical Isle.
This week's construction update. (We'll know more early next week).
