Traveling to Ruston for the first time.

This’ll be my first non-DFW away game as a North Texas grad. Making the drive from Austin with some non-UNT grads too. I was trying to see where La Tech “designates” their visitor’s section, or if any of y’all that have gone in the past have suggestions on the Ruston experience?

There is a Captain D's there, and Shreveport/Bossier City is about an hour away.

There is actually quite a bit of old money in Ruston.   It is a very conservative city, not a lot of the high life you would expect in southern Louisiana.

It's pretty county if you like trees.  A lot of trees.

The times that I have made that trip, I always tried to hit this place. Downtown, on the west side of the river, not too far off the interstate. Good Cajun chow.

I usually stayed at Diamond Jack's, east side of the river and just south of the freeway.

My wife is from Shreveport. Go to Superior Mexican food off Line avenue at some point. Rita’s and grub are wonderful.

I went a few years ago when we won. I bought through our ticket office last time. I would prefer to sit on the east side with the rest of the Green. However I’m wondering if you can just buy tickets on the visitor side by walking up. Anyone know or have done this in the past?

We are staying at Sam’s Town on Friday so if anyone gets a room there just know the will be Mean Green Fans there.

I married into a Tech family from Ruston so I'm there quite a bit.   It is small but its not a bad place to be.   Ponchatoulas or Log Cabin on Farmerville hwy (2 exits east from the Tech exit) are good places to go.   Sundown is a pretty cool bar in the downtown area.   Johnnies Pizza is just off the exit to Tech and is also pretty good.  Ruston doesnt have the same scene downtown as Denton of course, but you aren't exactly restricted to a Dairy Queen and Sonic either.

Their homecoming parade is quiet large. Lots of streets cut off so your "navigator" may not work very well.  You will sit in the Northeast end of the visitors side. Next to the score board.  Their homecoming court will be sitting under tents between visitors section and score board. They take their homecoming very seriously, very old school. VERY nice scenery.........in the old neighborhoods.

I was through Ruston about a month ago. There are quiet a few new eating joints opened on the interstate since 2013.

Board Walk (or whatever it is called) in Shreveport is pretty nice too if you are staying in one of the casinos.

We’re making the trip too.  Anyone know details about visitor parking?

Last time I was there (3 or 4 years ago), we parked in a small lot on the SE side of the stadium, but I think the only reason they let us in that lot was because that's where the Alumni Assoc was having their tailgate.  There is no organized event for this game, but I would like to tailgate near other greenies if someone has some kind of idea where they'll be.  One time, I remember parking in a wooded area near the basketball arena on the west side, but I don't know if that's still open to everyone.

As I recall, that wooded area was elevated and there was a parking lot adjacent to it, maybe the south or southwest side. It was a nice spot and the basketball arena was open for restroom use. Things may have changed so don't take it as gospel. Since this is their Homecoming, I would think they might be using spaces like that.
