Listened to a lot of it and agree with @Harry this game is quite important. All of those in the attendance thread thinking attendance will be big are failing to think that it takes time for most people to notice a turnaround.

On the surface we are 3-2 (average) and UTSA which on the surface most think don't play football is 3-1. I don't think there is a big attendance uptick from general fan.

That leads me to my biggest worry, the team sees this game as easier because UTSA just lost to a team we beat. That coupled with an average crowd deflates them and UTSA who HAS to win this game will be playing with their hair on fire.

After watching a pathetic effort from the US Men's national team in Trinidad last night in a similar circumstance blow it all i'm hoping this isn't the worst sports week for me.

I hope our team realizes they haven't done anything yet.

A few comments ...

* Harry ... your strong feelings about UTSA is in the minority.   The vast majority of UNT fans would name SMU as our biggest rival.

* The UTSA - USM game was a tale of two halves for USM.  USM did not have their starting quarterback and in the first half their offense was inept and it wasn't all due to UTSA's defense.   Guys on the board were turning off the game at the half because USM's offense was so inept. USM was lucky to be in the game at the half.  In the second half USM opened up their offense and their quarterback played much better.  Overall I'd say USM has more talent than UTSA but UTSA plays a style that really fits what they have.

* Great conversation about Dan McCarney and the Letterwinners.  I had to listen to that part twice.

Harry pushes the UTSA rivalry really hard.  I’m just not there.

I hate SMU, but I also hate UT San Antonio.

Every person I've met who went to that school is trashy and an asshole. That school just seems to attract those types.

If we're rivals, so be it. I'm with Ashton, I want to beat them, but I'd much rather get a bowl game win. if we go 7-5 with a loss to nUTSAck then I'd much rather be in that position than 6-6 with a win against them.

Get on board....it’s happening

You're probably right but right now they carry about as much emotional weight in mind heart as A&M-Commerce.  They just happen to have a football program with a few wins under their belt.

SMU, NMSU and - to a smaller extent - MTSU all have more meaning to me than the equivelant of IUPU-River Walk.

IMO, the UTSA game is more important than what @BeyondTheGreen led up, but less important than what @Harry proposed.  This game is important because it keeps UNT in control of its own destiny.   If we lose and UNT and UTSA win out the rest of the way, UTSA goes to the championship game, as I understand it.

That would be correct because of they would be tied in terms of winning % in conference with UTSA having the head to head tie breaker

------------------------------------------------------------

UNT is going to have a few tough match ups in 3 of the 4 next weeks.. UTSA and LAT are championship game contenders, with UNT, USM, and UAB. We may not think that UAB is a West contender, but look at there schedule, they play UTEP, Rice, and Charlotte this year..

FAU is leading the East, and IF UNT beats UTSA, it will be a game that will give the winner the upper-hand on home field advantage...

UNT already beat UAB and USM, LAT lost to UAB and UTSA lost to USM.. USM plays LAT next week when we play FAU.. Beating UTSA would be huge, because it would set them back at 0-2 in conference and with them still having to play UAB and LAT.. LAT still has to play UTSA and USM, and UTSA still has to play UAB and LAT..

I do not think this team will overlook any game till possibly Homecoming when we play UTEP followed by Army the next week..

I think what people are missing in my mustwinutsa diatribe, is we need this to continue our momentum.

Everyone knows how it felt to compete against Iowa, beat UAB, and then beat a favored USM team on the road.  The bye week and the losses from UTSA and La. Tech provided additional momentum.  So I would argue with the bye week, UNT garnered a three week positive-momentum wave.  Beating UTSA would put us to 4.  That's a month of positive UNT football vibes.  How often exactly has that occurred in the lifespan of this program.

While I agree with @BeyondTheGreen that the season is not lost with a UTSA loss I have this caviat.  For us diehards here on the board, the season would not be lost.  The fence sitters, who outnumber the diehards by 1000 to 1 will lose interest with a UTSA loss in my opinion.

Now we could end up beating UTSA and losing other games which could impact things for sure at a later time.

The other big reason I did not get to verbalize in the podcast is recruiting.  Beating UTSA would be a huge boost in that particular regard.

I don't want anyone to think I underestimate the importance of this game.  It's the biggest game of the season up to this point and has a lot riding on it from multiple angles.  In addition to it being a team that we have a history with.  If another CUSA TX team (Rice for instance) was in UTSA's shoes, I would think the exact same thing, not just because its UTSA.  I wanna beat UTSA just as much as everyone else, but I still wanna beat SMU more.  I really really don't like either team, but we need to own SMU as we get better as a program.
