My guide has always been, would I say "________" in front of my Mother.  Now if your Mother is Bonnie Parker or Ma Barker or Squeaky Fromm, maybe these rules don't apply, but it's a pretty good rule to follow generally.

That rule wouldn't do much for me.  I probably had less of a filter in front of my mother than most I would in front of most people.
