I got told by a security guard that I couldn't stand while watching the game yesterday?? What the heck.. only at North Texas would this happen..  I looked at her and laughed and proceeded to keep standing.  She told me I was going to be escorted out.  In the end nothing happened but seriously.......

Can't stand at a football game that's Ludacris

Thus I picked the top row in the lower bowl for my seats...can stand all I want and won't piss off anyone

That fan should be banned for the rest of the season. Ridiculous. The kids are doing more than enough sacrificing their bodies out there everyday and on Saturdays for our entertainment. So what they're laughing on the sidelines. How do we know what they're talking about?

Who's taking point on getting word out to our opponents that they need to stop taking these rec league games so seriously?

Right..when your team still has a few players who think it's funny to get your ass kicked at home it might as well be a rec league.

And I know coach Littrel will get that corrected. I'm not concerned.

Still, I love it that our fan base has finally decided that Loser U is no longer acceptable around here.  I may not agree with how he went about it but at least somebody in the stands drew the line.  It's far better than accepting it and going around acting everything is great in exchange for a personal relationship like some of RV's most staunch enablers have done the past 10 years.

That was probably because someone behind you complained.  They usually don't hassle anyone in my section unless there is a complaint.

A better way to express your discontent is not to buy that extra hot dog, beer or etc and walk out with most of the 4th quarter left.   I have never expected the Mean Green to win all its home game or even be competitive in all of them. But Dam It for conference home games you need to be competitive enough in all of them that the outcome is in real doubt in the 4th quarter.  Anything less is TOTALLY unacceptable.  MTSU is a good program and we have several others in the conference.  But unless they are ranked in the top 25 their is no excuse for getting outclassed at home.

Not giving myself a hot dog is punishing me more than North Texas.  I would never be that hard on myself.

This.

So irritating seeing players dance to music playing over the PA. Even worse several did it while on the field.

Pretty much. They are young kids, if they want to dance, Snap Chat, wave at people in the stands or watch YouTube on a watch, go for it. These poor exploited children being worked over by the man in exchange for the pittance of a life education and coaching for a possible NFL shot can't honestly be expected to act as representing the University. Let it be haters, they are going to get theirs.

Young adults. Yes. Young kids, not so much.

Agree to disagree.

Admittedly, I didn't see this incident, but you described him as "yelling at players" and I'm not sure there's ever an appropriate time for this.  I understand frustration but expressing that directly at an 18-21 year old who is working extremely hard to represent our university to the best of his ability doesn't feel productive.

No worries. It's all about fun and the player experience. You know what's fun? Seeing your team win. In modern Division 1 football, a team that is not extremely intense will lose most of the time. Some of you guys seem to be attending the wrong event. I wasn't even there. North Texas will have to get better before I start flying over for home games again. But some of the comments on here are mind-boggling. Take the pacifiers and security blankets out to the tiny tot games.

I wonder what would happen down in Aggie Land if a security guard told the fans to sit down???

I am literally instructed by the cheerleaders to stand up and cheer during portion of the games.  On third down do they want me to remain seated with my cup of tea and make some noise??  It's a (insert bad word) football game people!!

The people that whined about not seeing are probably the same people that wrote on the survey that the band was too loud.

I'd tweet directly to Wren Baker. I know you don't tweet but it doesn't hurt to start.

In the real world you get fired for "goofing off" on the job. Especially when you're co-workers are working their a$$ of to have a successful outcome for the team. I learned that long before I was 18.

In my experience your co-workers usually handled it......usually with very disdainful and pointed remarks.  But eventually the boss caught on to what was happening and took action. No one snitched.

And if you'd like an example. If I had been one of the players standing on the sideline, intensely into the game action and yelling support to my team mates out on the field, and I had noticed some guys laughing and goofing around behind me I would have said (as loud as I could) "Hey! are we making too much noise over here? Would you like us to tone it down some so you can hear your silly-assed remarks to one another a little better?"

You have no right to antagonize kids that don't even get paid, because they aren't sulking enough for your liking.  Its a game.  Its supposed to be fun, win or lose.   They are students who are playing football, not the other way around.  Why not let them enjoy it the way they want to?

There are a lot of valid points in this discussion on both sides, and I don't know exactly what was said, and the specific wording may have been unacceptable, but the spirit of the idea is valid.  These three quotes help to encapsulate my thoughts as much as any.

Look...anyone on here who actually knows me knows that I'm a huge rebel.  Dislike authority, don't like being told what to do, hate conforming.  It has made me very unpopular in certain circles, yet quite well-regarded in others.  Everybody has their own comfort zone.  It's all good.  But my rebellion has also been one that involves both self-awareness and discipline.  Don't point out the mote of dust in someone else's eye while disregarding the plank in your own.

These guys aren't children.  They're still young, but should be learning a high level of discipline and a drive to achieve while receiving (not counting the few walk-ons) what amounts to a 5-figure salary in terms of scholarship, room and board, coaching, meal plan, course fees, books. and other perks of the job.  And yes, all of those job perks are well-deserved...should they take it seriously.

This is FBS, major-college football.  I got a scholarship to the same kickass University that required me to maintain a 3.5 or higher.  I did that and much more.  When a University offers you a huge financial package, and requires you to step up and be a [friggin'] adult and work your ass off to prove that you've earned it, you do it.  Maybe the guy was out of line with specific things he said or the way he phrased it; I don't know, because no one has yet quoted him.  But of the times that I got called out for issues involving behavior or achievement, though many were opinion-based, there were a few that were extremely valid.  I was embarrassed and apologized and self-corrected immediately.

If we are giving out scholarships, especially those including huge financial packages that involve what would otherwise cost at least 40K a year, a modicum of decorum and behavioral standards are certainly reasonable expectations.

Should any of you disagree and desire to discuss it in person, I'll be there for Homecoming.  Just look for the alum with the mohawk, piercings, and tattoos.  There probably won't be many.  Then you can tell me how we're expecting too much conformity in the way that these young men behave.  Seriously...give us a valid reason for behavioral differences, and I'm ready to listen.  But I don't buy the "they're young and having fun and shouldn't have to be responsible" crap.  I ran into E.B. on Fry Street (for those who know the area and his van) last year and he referred to me as "the original gutter-punk."  But the difference here is that I believe that when we are given an opportunity in exchange for a minimum level of performance, should we choose to accept that opportunity, we are also responsible for achievements and behaviors that adhere to the requirements lain out in order to receive the perks of that opportunity.

I hated everything about where I was and almost everyone around me.  North Texas gave me a scholarship, an opportunity to be the first in my family to receive a degree, and a place that I could call home for the first time in my life.  Instead of being jumped by 5 guys and punched in the face every time I walked down a hallway, I had a chance to focus on my academics and to be involved and do my best to make a community - one that took a risk on someone like me - proud that they rolled the dice and took me in.

I know that most of you can't identify with that, but the core of it stands for everyone.  When you're given an opportunity, when you're given a chance...and especially when everyone else thinks you're worthless, but even disregarding that factor, if there's a possibility that you can show everyone, especially those who've invested so much in you, that you have something amazing to give...why wouldn't you?

Work hard.  Kick ass and take names.  Stand out instead of fitting in.  Be f--king awesome.  Don't d--k around when your team, your classmates, or your friends need support...get serious about your opportunity to show the world what kind of person you are.

I don't want anybody heckling our guys for being imperfect...but I sure as hell am not ready to coddle them because it's fun to screw around instead of being focused on your teammates when you're losing.  Don't be an a-hole, but seriously...if you think they're beyond all reproach just because they're "kids"...grow a pair.

Reminds me of my freshman year in high school.  Our team much like NT was being dominated and my friend and I were definitely not focused on the game.  The HC came up to us and told us if we didn't straightened out, he would put us in the game.   That is a threat that I still remember, although I would have loved to have played in that game.

Back to the debate, I have never liked any fan yelling at players even the opposition.  Likewise, players who appear disinterested and not concerned with the game sent out a bad message.  I have no idea of the circumstances of this incident, so I won't directly comment.  However, I do believe this coaching staff is fully capable of solving the problem and will.

Could be that not all players are as "on board" as we are led to believe.  Losing takes a mental toll.  The players are in practice everyday.  They probably have a better feel than us as to whether the rookie coaching staff knows what its doing.

Offense - OC/QBs and WRs - have been entrusted to coaches with very little experience.  Offense has had a lot of dry spells in the season.  Five games in and only four TDs thrown in an "Air Raid" offense.  Last year, we had five TDs through the air after five games.  Crazy, right?  Something's not clicking with what the coaches are doing.

It's not a stretch to believe that some of the players believe the season is being sacrificed.  And, if they are upperclassmen, they have every right to be pissed about it.  Many were freshmen or redshirt freshmen when we had the last bowl season, so they can probably judge whether this season has the feel of that one.

SMU Jesus is wasting a bunch of SMU upperclassmen's time as well.  It's not taking long for the wheels to fall off the wagon this season either.  He's 2-0 against us, 1-0 against FCS Liberty, and 1-13 against everyone else.

June Jones had the Ponies finishing 8-5 his second season, Co-champs of their Division, and won a bowl...and, that was off of back-to-back 1-11s, Bennett's last season and his first.

The upperclassmen have played football for a long time. Don't expect them to go all in if they feel like the new coaching staff is sacrificing them to some unknown "future."  Many times, those "futures" never arrive at schools like these.

What I am about to say should in no way, shape or form be construed as condoning a fan yelling at players and proceeding to be escorted out of the stadium... but players not buying into the system because "they're being sacrificed" is absolute bullshit.  A player has certain responsibilities-they show up, maintain appropriate levels of engagement and give everything they have. Simply because you don't like the direction that's taken doesn't give you carte blanche to half-ass anything.  Simply because I don't like the direction that a dude who recently assumes command of a senior unit and I'm on my way out to a new position doesn't mean I get to just mail it in because I'm not happy- it means I still show up like a grown up and do my job, because if I don't the mission fails.  Regardless as to how far down on the depth chart some of these guys may be, they're still on the kill chain and need to act like it because their actions matter.

Now, on the topic of a fan getting escorted out for chastising players- this is absolute asshattery.  Coaches will take care of this, if not, the seniors who are in leadership positions will.  It's not our job to discipline the players.  We are there to support, regardless as to the means we chose, and provide an atmosphere.  Simply because tickets are bought doesn't provide license to go off on a player on the sidelines.  Furthermore, to congratulate people for such behavior is absolutely asinine.

Tell that to the kids who quit to the tune of 66-7 last season.

Of course, it's bullshit.  But, it's also human nature to not buy in if you feel you are being treated unfairly - and, for kids in this generation, there's no telling how low that bar is.

We're North Texas fans, remember...we're supposed to give coaches years to "build" the program back up.  Nothing is their fault in Year One:

McCarney's 5-7 in 2011 wasn't his fault.  He won as many games his first year as the prior two seasons combined just out of sheer luck.
Dodge's 2-10 in 2007 wasn't his fault.  Lots of schools hire high school coaches.  We just tried hiring four or five at a time.  It was a gamble.  No one's fault.
Dickey's 3-8 in 1998 wasn't his fault.  We won four in '96 and three in '97, so we were on a downward trend, you see?  Trying to get a I-A type roster built up after the I-AA jump.
Simon's 7-4-1 in 1994 wasn't his fault...wait...we were still I-AA back then.  Does this really count?  Simon was 2-9 in his first I-A season.  Which one counts.

Anyway, you get the drift.  Don't criticize this coaching staff if we have a losing season.  It's not the North Texas way.  We wait until a coaching staff wins a bowl game, then we turn on them.  So, you've got a while to wait.
