cusa recruiting rankings

Probably had to do with the fact the Texas schools had bad years and half of them fired their coaches.

A look at the CUSA Recruiting numbers.

This. UNT and UTSA got rid of their coaches due to bad records, Rice' coach is on the hot seat, and UTEP is... well... in El Passo. Plus it plays a similarly attractive style as Mac did and that 100% policy is not letting that schollie look particularly valuable.

Side note - just noticed that SMU is ranked #70 and it makes me physically ill.

The question is what was SMU ranked last year. And what was Tulane ranked this year.

(Cue the apologist to say UNT can't hope to compete with SMU in recruiting)

EDIT: The Internet and 24/7 say 86 nationally and #6 in AAC for SMU last year.

But how can anyone be expected to recruit in this short a time frame!!!!!!!!111!!1!!

Below average recruiting, was hoping for better.

We can hope to compete with SMU in recruiting. We can hope for a team of Pegasi to fly our team to away games on a magical sleigh. It won't happen, though. It hasn't happened in forever. They were in the SWC and we were in I-AA. We COULD outrecruit them, but it would probably take something better than 80% losing seasons over 20 years to accomplish it. A shiny new coach isn't going to do that.

Correct now add in the fact they we are ranked well below Texas State in recruiting one has to wonder what Nick Saban could do with this program.

Except SMU has that same losing stench on them that UNT has. They have been to LESS bowl games than UNT the last 20 years.

Recruits today weren't even born when SMU played in the SWC. Non-factor.

SMU got an immediate bump in recruiting with Curtis, UNT did not with Litrell.

If you aren't disappointed with this McCarney-esqe recruiting class... Well...

Like it or not, SMU still has cachet in DFW and in Texas, due to its private status and its SWC pedigree, as well as its location in Dallas. Their coaches and parents know all about them and can play teams they have still heard of while getting a supposedly better degree than the public schools (debatable, but clearly is what a lot of people think...).

it also helps that SMU paid big time for a hoops coach and facilities and that it has paid off greatly--this is what recruits come to watch in January when looking at the school. SMU shows a top ten school playing UConn or Cincy, with HOF coach Larry Brown in front of a sellout. We are showing recruits our campus during hoops season, bringing kids to watch us get crushed by Louisiana Tech in front of 2000 people, with Benford coaching in his 4th season.

The fight between us and SMU will never be fair--they have the dollars, the history, the local media, and a better conference. Our only hope is beating them on the field when their overrated class gets coached down by coaches that are either inept or have quit. Chad Morris has a ways to go to prove that he will be either of those at SMU, but it will happen. He will either get fired in the next two years or he will be coaching at a P5 somewhere very soon if he can finally get SMU up to .500, especially considering that in 2014, they were the worst FBS team in the country, which is where we ended up being in 2015.

Rivals shows us dead-ass last again, at 128. What do the other sites show us rated?

We got passed up by UTEP & UTSA it looks like on the latest composite. The highest anyone has us is 8th in CUSA and around 100 nationally which is 24/7's own rating. That's mostly because they rank Johnson as a 4-star recruit.

Yep.  All of this. Parents, coaches, media... we're gonna have to earn our way out of our position with winning. Until we do that... for a while, the teams that have always beaten us in recruiting will continue to do so.

And our position, as maybe UNT90 is aware, is the direct responsibility of the AD. But the damage is done. This school killed football a long time ago, and has been burying it deeper every year.

Look, we have a long ways to go, McCarney, WTF? Didn't these guys have recruits on a string from the summer and fall. What? Did the coaches just stop recruiting? We have zip recruits from the DMN area top 100, this is unacceptable! Thank Rick V for putting us in this hole. Let's hope Littrell can dig us out...
