Now that DC and OC are in place -- next most important coach?

Who will be the recruiting coordinator?  To me that is an EXTREMELY critical position on this staff.  Needs Texas ties, needs to be organized and also a good salesman.  My hope is that this position will be elevated in the new regime and not treated as window dressing.  We need an aggressive guy who has some strong connections in this area and state.

I'm guessing the DC will coach LBs. And it looks like we probably have our o-line coach. So that leaves tight ends coach, cornerbacks coach, and safeties coach. I don't see any of the announced new coaches being the recruiting coordinator, since this is Filani's first position coach gig, Harrell is the OC, and Ekeler is the DC. Could definitely be Perry or KP.

If I remember correctly @Cerebus said that Filani was a recruiting specialist in another post. So that might hint to his position? Considering Cerebus usually has reliable info

True this. But I once worked for a guy who told me "Always tell the truth so that when you need to lie they'll believe you."

My point is he has only been a GA and a quality control coach up until now. I don't think they'd have a guy be the recruiting coordinator in his first year as a position coach.

Too bad Harrell will have too much on his plate as OC to be the main recruiter too...most high school seniors who grew up watching him light it up at Tech would be thrilled to have him show up for a visit.

To me, though, the next most important is probably a tie between recruiting and S & C.  You can't put enough focus on the value of well-conditioned athletes.

This is where I think a lot of people are misunderstood with recruits. Harrell was a senior at Tech when the current high school seniors were in 5th grade. So few kids are really watching college football intently at that age. If the kid's parents were Tech alum then for sure, but if not I think we overestimate how much college football these kids have watched and how few years they've really been paying attention.

That being said, I think he'll still be able to recruit very well and if kids don't know what he did at Tech before they get recruited by us I'm sure they'll know once we start recruiting them.

this is true.  The kids won't know, but the coaches, parents, and others will know and that is still very big.  Their excitement and what the parents and coaches are tell the recruit is important.

Recruits will go and google who is recruiting them.  That's why accolades and accomplishments are important.

Harrell needs to be in charge of the Ennis District for Recruiting SURELY those people still recognize that name.  Right??

We've had this discussion before. I agree with you, and what you are saying. I'm not discrediting parental/mentor research and knowledge. What I'm responding to is a statement that said "most high school seniors who grew up watching Harrell light it up at Tech".

If we have any recruiting targets down the 287 corridor from Corsicana/Ennis/Waxahachie, we need to trot Harrell in there to seal the deal.
If we have any recruiting targets in Wofforth/Lubbock/Canyon/anywhere-West-of-Abilene, we need to trot Harrell in there to seal the deal.

The original question was which is the next most important coach to hire.  I'll give a different answer for a different reason.

Quality Control Coach for Offense

Why?  Currently we have 17 "coaches" for football on the Mean Green Sports site. This includes a Director of Football Operations (Scott Conley), Strength Coach, four GA's, and a GA for S&C.  If that page can grow to 20 names next season with more full time coaches (like Quality Control or High School Relations) then it shows  we've really stepped up what we're budgeting for coaches.  This can have a huge effect on our recruiting efforts, game planning, and the improvement of the players we already have.
