My gut says DD and Fuente have a deal. DD, coach us through the bowl season while I go on ahead, survey the landscape and clear out the MFers at VT and start planning. After the season, I'll send for you.

I hope he has thanked Fuente for introducing him to the forward pass.

After seeing film and studying tendencies, Memphis' next opponent will be caught flatfooted by a draw on third and 9!

It will make me nostalgic for cries of "Throw the f'n ball, Dickey!".

So this is how rumors grow?  Silver yelled at Flanny and Flanny yelled back.  Unfortunate, but in a decade the story will be Dickey himself pile drove an elderly war veteran off the Fouts Field press box.

Wait, are you saying this DID NOT happen?  I was there.  I saw it with my own eyes...  And it was actually the Stone Cold Stunner, not a pile driver.   You could hear the "MF'er!" for miles around.

I was certainly one who yelled that at him, and I liked Coach Dickey. He was always a class act with me and helped a LOT with the Gomeangreen.com flag football games. He really did want to be a part of that stuff, and also wanted us to be a part of his program. Ah, the good old days. While I was watching Memphis beat the crap out of SMU Saturday, I found myself thinking DD should be leaving RV phone messages.. "Hello Rick?, yeah this is Darrell again. We have a job opening for concession manager, but you'll have to apply quick. Some M'Fer offered that same job to Norm Chow".

      Memphis just got FedEx to pony up $25 million for the next 5 years for NIL for football, hoops, and other women's sports. That's not counting their money they give for sponsorship of their athletic department. We have nothing like this. Maybe some G5s do, but most don't.

      Please explain to me how the portal has killed college football for you. Coaches have left schools/players in the lurch for decades. Should a kid that is buried on the depth chart somewhere be forced to stay and waste the best years of his life? How many kids have transferred and then gone on to play in the NFL? People are upset that the players actually have power now. The players who put their own body and potential future health at risk for the enjoyment of a bunch of middle-aged dudes. The players who spend virtually every waking hour in class, practice, training, lifting, running, studying, etc. Its about damn time they've rightfully been given the freedom to go where they want and to be finanially compensated.

      Sorry I'm not buying that. UNT can and should be among the upper tier of G5 programs. Location alone gives you a huge advantage. Facilities are among the top half of G5. Coaches are being compensated at or near the top of the AAC. The foundation is there. NIL, for better or worse, is the new coin of the realm (along with the portal). It can be done. I'd rather have the resources at UNT as opposed to nearly all other G5's.

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      What is the legality of this? And to think back in 2013 I was banned from this site for like 3 months for suggesting/asking why we don't do $100 handshakes to/for our players. I was chastised as if I was Genghis Khan. It was as if the people closest to this program was completely unaware that it was happening literally everywhere else. Now fast forward a short 10 years and conference administrators are trying to loophole money to affiliated players.

      It's not really doom and gloom. It's a pattern of behavior that has led to a pattern of results. We are cash poor, we spend average money, our collective is in the bottom third of our own peers, and we are perceptually a weird, liberal arts college (some truth to that). The Why not North Texas mantra has been ran through by coaches, players, administrators, and alum. There is a list of reasons as to why not North Texas. I don't want it to be this way. I don't like it. But it just is.
