As a UNT alum, I would like to personally thank you for leading us to our first victory against UTKFC tonight.  This has been a tough season, but you came in and did a very good job turning this program around the last couple of weeks.  Thank you for understanding this is an important game for the program.  Thank you for your hard work on behalf of the program and Go Mean Green!

His post game interview was one of the best I've ever heard.  First class all the way.  In the face of imminent termination from this program, he is standing tall.  Thank you Coach Chico.

Agreed!  Not to knee jerk and not to get off topic, but he may have been the best option at head coach after Dodge. 

I can't disagree, but Carlos Harris might. Somebody needs to put a leash on that guy.

Also, thanks to Chico and the players for not letting this season be the first winless season in UNT history.

The players deserve some of the credit too for bailing him out of his coaching blunders. That's the way teams and teammates are supposed to respond.

I know, the way he finished the season with Dodge's mess and the way he has turned things around this year...what was I thinking?

Not saying he should be hired now, but 5 years ago, the time may have been right.

Try to have a little higher standards.

Some of you people really are masochists. Or maybe abused spouses is a better analogy. You think because you have been starved for years, the first person that throws you a crumb is Jesus Christ in person. 

Chico won't be head coach here next year and won't be an OC in FBS football. 

Expect just a tad more...

How can you say for certain that he is wrong? Are you sure we'd have been worse off today with Chico heading things over the last 5 years as opposed to Mac? He didn't say hire Chico now, he said that he may have been better 5 years ago.

Agree.  Chico shares some of the responsibility for the situation that we are in.  I just can't get real excited about beating 1-6 UTKFC team.  I certainly appreciate what he is doing, but I agree he won't be a OC in FBS next year.

We would most certainly be better off . He would have been able to attract far superior athletes thus winning more. I still think we need a house cleaning though.

You read a lot into "He MAY HAVE BEEN the best option at head coach AFTER Dodge."

What's funny is someone I tailgate with told me "just watch, people are going to start calling for Chico to be head coach again."

This is either the dumbest college football fan base in America or the most abused.

Or both.

Who has called for Chico to be head coach?  I missed that thread.  All I see are people showing appreciation for an improved team the last three games and the avoidance of a certain 0-12 season if the other guy was still head coach.  I'll state one more time: He may have been the best option at head coach after Dodge.  It would be ridiculous to hire him now, but I don't know that it would have been five years ago and neither do you.

Yes I do/did, and said so at the time. Sadly, Chico campaigned the dysfunctional fans and almost pulled it off.

If I'm overreacting, it's because of last time, 

And several have already said he should be a candidate in another thread.

      Tim Pernetti's (new AAC Commissioner) remarks regarding exploring more corporate involvement seems interesting and innovative, sort of. Getting some heavy-hitter businesses on board with their big advertising/public-relations budgets. They get to splash their logos all over the AAC venues, ceremonies, uniforms, etc in exchange for some NIL type moola. I don't know, it all just feels weird and uncomfortable to this old fat guy.

      We have complained for years about being left in the dark. The Mean Green Club was promised quarterly meetings that never took place, now there is little to no coverage of the spring practices, player movement is constant so the days of watching a last second scholarship player developing in to a Hall of Fame performer are long gone ala Johnny Quinn, there is little to no fan engagement, etc... It just keeps getting worse and without a push to really involve the fans, I foresee a bleak future. They, the AD, has to create excitement around the team/program or Apogee will just become a waste of money, the new basketball arena will never happen and future adds like baseball will just be an idea that came too late. The days of the G5's are on their way out. It will be whittled down to the top 40 or 50 programs as D1. We might as well go back to our D1AA days and play at the FCS level. I am just about done with sports from a financial commitment position. The greed has ruined it for me. Their is zero loyalty towards the program by the players. It is all about them and how much money they can cram in their pockets and it appears our basketball coach encourages the lack of loyalty. I will watch on television, but that's about it, much like pro sports have become. I have no interest in attending a Cowboys' game live once the prices became ridiculous, same with the Mav's and Rangers' in that stupid new ballpark that was a waste of money. I had arrived at a point where I was only willing to invest in watching North Texas live, but the current situation has ruined that as well. The future of all of college sports is a disaster if some type of control isn't put in place. It is ridiculous and very sad. Guess I will end up spending my money on golf, fine food and drink, drugs, etc. and become a more interesting person.
