MGB: UNT football signee arrested

Don't really know what I think about this stuff other than it is pure stupidity!  Part of me says that this idiot should immediately be gone!  Another part says jerk his scholly and see how he handles that and if he wants to "earn it back".  Another says lay down the law, give him some "make up" work and let it be a lesson learned with the kid kept on a very short leash.

i have to wonder if this is a "first time" for this kid.  Like a lot of star athletes these days he has probably had a few "incidents" overlooked during his HS years.  So, he feels entitled....who knows, but this shows a big character flaw, a lack of personal respect and a big lack of respect for team, teammates and UNT in general.

i don't care how common on other campuses this might be...this is UNT and stuff like this is not appropriate!  I am sure Coach Mac will handle this, but I am really torn on whether I think this kid should remain a part of the Mean Green.  If he has no respect for himself or school or team at this point....what might the future hold?

I find it hard to believe that this guy came to Denton and had never done this sort of thing before.  Perhaps had never been caught, arrested, and had a mug shot before.

I'm always sorry when a thief is given the title "North Texas Football Player."

It's his choice.  I'm sorry we wasted a scholarship this way.

This story along with the Baylor player story just made Norm's show.

I think we should just cut this guy loose.  The wideout position is actually pretty deep right now and it sends a message to the rest of the team that crap like this will no longer be tolerated.  There is no excuse for his actions.

I have no issue giving a kid a second chance or two to prove they know better.  They are 17 and 18 years old and regardless of what they think they know, they don't have a clue for the most part.

It takes a village.

and while we are at it, let's offer Soso Jamabo from Plano a spot if UCLA pulls their offer after his much more serious offense (I highly doubt UCLA pulls their offer).

Welcome to the board. You summed up the general sentiment around here in your first post.

Will has posted under another user name before.

When I was 17, I knew better than to shoplift.  Pretty sure they all know better and just do it to see if they can get away with it, for thrills or to prove something to someone.  If the latter is the case, we need to find out who else these kids are talking to and make sure they stay the hell away from our players.

Of course they do it because they think they can get away with it.  What they don't have a good handle on is the long term ramifications.  Throwing a kid away has some real potential of taking a kid that may have made something of himself and turning him in the wrong direction.  Not an easy call.  I have no idea of his background or upbringing.  I am sure someone in his family taught him right from wrong, but kids do stupid things even when they know better.

I always find this sort of situation amazing.  People call these players men when they score a touchdown or intercept a pass but call them kids when they are caught stealing or cheating.  I think all of them, regardless of the label we use, know that stealing is not only wrong but against the law.  Certainly they would know theft is wrong and/or illegal if the item stolen were taken from them.  If a television were stolen from their family I bet they would know it's wrong.

Men or kids, people that steal are thieves.  They don't deserve to be called North Texas Athletes.
