There might not have been a more important challenge for UNT heading into the offseason than finding a solution to its quarterback problem.

UNT used three this season — Josh Greer, Dajon Williams and Andrew McNulty — has another one waiting in the wings the coaching staff likes in redshirt freshman Connor Means and a grayshirt coming in with Caleb Chumley.

UNT still went out and searched the country for a junior college addition.

That pretty much said it all in terms of where UNT stands.

DaMarcus Smith spent a whole lot of time at a whole lot of places over the last few years trying to find the right spot to continue his football career at the major college level.

The highly regarded quarterback believes that search came to an end late Sunday night, when he committed to North Texas.

Smith spent last season at Butler (Kansas) Community College, the fourth school he either committed to, signed with or played for since he developed into one of the top quarterback prospects in the country in 2011 in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

“This is the right spot for me,” Smith said of UNT. “I like the offense that they run and felt comfortable with the staff. They said that they are wanting me to come in and compete for the starting spot.”

Smith (6-2, 210) was one of five junior college players to commit to UNT over the last few days.

The Mean Green landed a commitment from Butler offensive lineman Brian Ochs on Friday.

We all want you to come in and compete for the starting spot. In fact, most of us on the board hope you win it...but that's in your hands.

Mac has made it very clear what you need to do to win the starting spot at North Texas:

1. Protect the football

2. Avoid turnovers for the love of all things holy

3. Know the playbook inside and out

4. Be a student of the game and spend additional time studying film

5. Be a leader and role model (preferably a vocal one)

6. Be consistent - in practice and in games - on the field and off the field

7. Get the job done

8. Be coachable - listen to critique, work hard, make improvements

9. Take care of academics

10. Be reliable and prepared for everything expected of you (workouts, academics, meetings, practice, etc.)

11. Love the Mean Green Family

Do those eleven things starting today and you'll put yourself in a good position to be the starter.

Don't do those eleven things and you'll likely end up on the sideline...

The choice is yours.

      St. Johns is one of the great sleeping giant jobs in the nation. They have a fantastic basketball history (they haven't been that great for the last generation or so, but the Johnies do have a helluva tradition) going back about 80 years and they play in NYC at MSG.

      Recent Past With all the excitement over Tylor Perry we quickly forgot about the best player from our recent past. The stats and awards bear it out. In my mind the answer is Javion Hamlet. We won the Conference in 2020 and arguably that was the best team we have ever had.

      Judge orders Florida State, ACC to mediation to settle suit

      A majority of schools could just vote to dissolve the ACC. There would be a court fight, but eventually schools that want out will be released with some greatly reduced financial penalty. It's like a divorce, you can't keep someone in an unhappy relationship, even with a contract. It will happen probably before the end of next year at the pace things are moving.

      The ACC has a media rights deal that runs through 2036 with massive financial penalties to leave. ACC schools make more money per school than the Big 12. The PAC had no media deal and zero financial penalty to leave the conference. The two situations couldn't be more different. ACC schools do not want to associate themselves with the likes of WVU, Cincy, UCF, Texas Tech, OK State and the other Truck Stoppers.

      The ACC will be picked apart just like the PAC was. Big12 will help in the raiding, just as they did with the PAC.
