I am heading up to State College this weekend to enjoy the Ohio State @ Penn State football game with my father and two uncles. This will be my first trip to Beaver Stadium, but my 4th or so PSU game (TicketCity Bowl, Alamo Bowl, @ Alabama in '86?). Although the game is not as exciting as it looked before the season, I think it's going to be one of the best sporting experiences I've had. I haven't been able to attend much recently (because small children - no jokes, please) so other than HOD this is pretty much it for big time sports for me since the 2001 NLCS (damn you, Randy Johnson!) and the Indianapolis 500 in '02. It's still a B1G match up and includes the #13 team in the country. I think it will be worth the trip.

It's a white-out and I'm hoping to slip some Mean Green into that. I will be having an ice cream at the creamery and a few many Yuengling.

Anyone jealous? Anyone care to throw out the greatest sporting event they've been to? Any sport will do. I like sports.

But, what I am really looking for here is to be told what a horrible person I am for going and supporting Penn State. That I should be ashamed for traveling nearly 1,500 miles to watch a team play football that supports evil. Tell me I am going to "PEDOPHILE ST". Tell me that my family "don't think Joe Pa did anything wrong". I want your hate.

Army-Navy game in Philadelphia, very first Cowboy pre-season game at the Cotton Bowl, Dallas Texans-Houston Oilers AFL Championship game at the Cotton Bowl, all the World Cup games at the Cotton Bowl, Masters Golf Tournament, and on and on....so many wonderful times and fantastic memories...and did I mention the Mean Green's win over UNLV in last year's HOD Bowl? Pure greatness!

Best non UNT sporting events I ever went to were probably both horseracing actually. Zenyatta's 2009 Breeders Cup Classic triumph and her 19th win in a row in the 2010 Lady's Secret Stakes. In both instances, the electricity in the air as she made her final drives to win and the euphoria in the crowds after is something hard to put into words. People were losing their minds.

Can't even hear the race call at the end. While that is normal AT the track, it is not during a broadcast since the microphone is directly piped into the TV folks.

I miss going to Del Mar for the last two races every day after work. Those were good times. Never made it to Santa Anita, and unlike oh, everybody ever, I actually used to enjoy Hollywood park and its dollar beer Fridays.

Lone Star is a nice enough place, but the horses always run when I can't go and it's a bajillion degrees above angry Satan Hell outside.

I LOVED Hollywood Park. When they closed it last year...that was a sad, sad day. Santa Anita is very nice, but I liked the bit of seediness under the beautiful veneer that HP had. That place must have been truly amazing in its heyday, because even as run down as it was the last few years, you could still see the majesty of the place.

Oh man. They got rid of the track and kept the casino? That's about as ass backwards as a development decision can get! Are they gonna raze the Forum along with the track for more of that sweet, sweet housing development? I wonder how potential residents will feel residing across Century Blvd from some of the shadiest real estate in southern California.

Yes, they kept the casino. I am not sure what they did with the monuments - there were some nice ones at the track. The Forum was bought a few years ago and turned into a primo concert venue. It's not going anywhere.

Sorry everyone that we got off topic.

Sounds like you'll be having a great time! I'm jealous. Being a visiting fan at any event is always fun.

The best sporting event I can remember going to has to be Game 5 of the 2011 NBA Finals. Such an amazing experience being there in person to witness it.

Honorable mentions:

MLS Cup (05' & 06')

2010 NBA All Star Game
