Decent summary, and one I can get on board with. I can see how once you're on Mac's "bad side" it's probably near impossible to get back on his "good side" - which is bad news for Dajon Williams.

If McNulty starts the rest of the way (and I think he will, baring injury or another turnover-fest) then I wonder what the effect on Dajon will be. If I were in his shoes, I'd redouble my work effort, especially during the winter and over summer 2015 and make near certain that I claim the starting QB job without any doubts. But what's more likely to happen is he'll transfer and it'll be another "if only" story that is the hallmark of UNT QBs.

I'm not quite ready to bail on Mac as I've been impressed when I've seen him and how he's been able to (somewhat) turn the program around, but I wish he weren't so conservative with his in-game management. Sometimes it takes a gutsy playcall and execution to turn around a season - e.g. USM's fake punt call last weekend.

In this off-season I think Canales and Skladeny need to go. It goes back to Dajon - I just don't think he and Canales click and a new OC could be just what the doctor ordered to help out our anemic offense. Sure, the defense has its problems, but at the same time if you take away the offensive turnovers-for-scores, the defense hasn't given up that many points. So I understand why Mac is more concerned with a QB who takes care of the ball than one who makes explosive plays/can convert third downs.

I can't see a way for UNT to win four of their remaining five games to become bowl eligible. Rice will stomp us in their own back yard, especially as they're rolling and want to avenge last year, UTSA have a decent QB and we're playing in San Antonio; likewise for UTEP - which is probably our best chance of an away win. FAU and FIU at home are toss-ups, but given the way our season is going I can see those being narrow losses as well. The best we can hope for IMO is three more wins.

      The Athletic on DFW Football recruiting

      You'll see that you will enjoy your time and money a lot more. I quit about 2 years ago, when it became apparent that G5s were just minor leagues for the P5s. I knew it was coming, as I posted about this exact situation for years before on here. And there will be many others that are much higher up the foodchain than us who will see this happen to. I see the breakaway having 30-50 schools for their own athletics. Really, if the top 24 schools wanted to form their own setup, they could easily. Texas, A&M, OU, LSU, etc...they all have the eyeballs and the media and the legislative support from their states. I loved getting 6+ hours back on Saturdays in the fall. I loved using those funds towards family trips and better entertainment opportunities for all of us. like concerts and golf. To be honest, the time was better to get back than the money. More time with family and friends on the weekend, as well as more time for stuff with church and the community was the best surprise of all. I don't even blame players for getting theirs, either. More money and more exposure in the P5s that these guys grew up rooting for and dreaming of playing for all adds up to an easy decision for these guys. Basically, the players are catching up to what the coaches got to do without any qualms for years. Again, if we hadn't quit on the program back in the early 80's with the ridiculous drop down to i-aa when the SWC was one of the kings of the NCAA, it just nuked the program. You lost generations of fans and alumni from the past and the future, most of whom just picked up another school to root for or just become pro fans only, all while completely dropping the program's status with TX HS coaches and parents, maybe things would be different today, I'd like to guess at a minimum, we could have been a UH type program, maybe higher because of our location. Had we had any vision, the old Big Eight would have been the perfect conference to go all in to join instead of the SWC. We could have given that entire league a DFW presence, instead of just OU. And getting to play OU, Nebraska, Colorado, OSU, KU, KSU, Missouri, and ISU as conference mates in both football and hoops would have jumped us over ALL of the SWC privates. UH and Tech would've been peers instead of being steps above us as SWC members. But we didn't...we just gave up.

      Doesn't seem new, but unlimited transfers

      I applaud his effort to become innovative. Let's try something like this - corporate sponsors provide a pool of money that is made available based on performance in the league and all-conference teams. Graduating players would get their bonus in the year it happens, while players with remaining eligibility would get their bonus at the beginning of the following football season once school has started (which would mean that they are still enrolled in the same school where they performed and gained the all-conference honors). This would perhaps entice players not to bolt once they have success.

      I think it's pretty clear that Deion wants a revolving door of players every year. And his best players are staying, and at least some of those who entered the portal were encouraged to do so.

      This seems to be the norm that we will live with in college football. But in Dion's case, when you recruit players with a sales pitch on doing what is best for "me," don't be surprised when they have no loyalty to you.

      Spring transfer portal

      I mean like wow, we must have the highest exit rate of any program pertaining to NIL. I think UNT needs to focus on one and done guys that will graduate or whatever until these type of NIL and portal rules get addressed by our politicians.
