  1. North Texas and new head coach Eric Morris are set to hire Bryan Kegans as their new head strength coach, per Brett Vito of the Denton Record-Chronicle in Texas. Kegans served this season as the associate director of football sports performance at USC. He previously spent time at Guyer High School in Denton. Bryan Kegans came to USC in January of 2022 as associate director of football sports performance. He spent the previous four seasons (2018-21) at Oklahoma, where he was assistant director of sports performance/director of sport science. The Sooners won the Big 12 title in 2018, 2019 and 2020, and made a pair of College Football Playoff semifinal appearances in 2018 and 2019.   2. USC President C. L. Max Nikias was 1,400 miles from the Los Angeles campus, but he knew just how to appeal to his audience. In a swanky hotel ballroom, he told the crowd of alumni and donors that Texas had become the largest feeder of students to USC after California, and that students from their state scored significantly higher on the SAT than the average of all applicants. Then he introduced Texas' first lady, Cecilia Abbott, whose daughter will attend USC in the fall. That, he joked, could cause conflicts for the governor's family during football games. The three-day, three-city Trojan sprint through Texas was underway, one that could help USC raise the $1.8 billion it needs to reach its ambitious $6-billion campaign goal for scholarships, faculty hiring and building by the end of 2018.
