  1. Quarterback Jacob Zeno has performed admirably the last three weeks since being thrust into action on the road against Western Kentucky, but Dylan Hopkins has been a full participant in practice this week and was named the starter by UAB interim head coach Bryant Vincent. Zeno could still see some action this week considering the progression during his time as the starter. Before sustaining a concussion against the Hilltoppers, Hopkins led the Blazers to a 4-2 record while passing for 1,233 yards, 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, adding 119 yards and 2 scores on the ground. In his time subbing for the former, Zeno has completed 60 percent of his passes for 557 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. North Texas quarterback Austin Aune is one of the oldest players currently in C-USA, due to playing a few years of minor league baseball, and is as experienced as any play of the team. The junior has completed 58.2 percent of passes for 2,753 yards, throwing for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and leads the Mean Green’s 24th-ranked passing offense (285.2 ypg). 2. The UAB Blazers overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat North Texas, 29-21, to take a commanding lead in the Conference USA West division race. The Blazers (6-1) held North Texas to only 64 rushing yards and sacked Mason Fine a total of four times for a loss of 13 yards. Fine becoming the first quarterback to throw for more than 200 yards on the UAB defense after going 29 of 40 for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns. A.J. Erdely finished 14 of 22 for 189 yards while running the ball 14 times for 23 yards. Sophomore running back Spencer Brown hit the century mark for the third time this season with 100 yards on 25 carries with three rushing scores. read more: https://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2018/10/uab_holds_off_north_texas_in_m.html

  4. North Texas just couldn’t get out of its own way. The Mean Green had everything going for themselves against Alabama-Birmingham at Legion Field on Saturday, until they didn’t. A safety that cut their lead to 21-12 early in the third quarter completely shifted the momentum of the game in the Blazers’ favor, as they went on to score the final 19 points in a 29-21 victory. UNT (6-2, 2-2) was in danger of letting UAB back to within a score early in the third when senior DB Nate Brooks stripped and recovered a fumble at the Mean Green 1 to preserve the two-score cushion. However, Mason Fine was sacked in the end zone by Garrett Marino a play later for a safety to make it 21-12. The Blazers seized the momentum from that safety to cut UNT’s lead to 21-19 after a Spencer Brown 3-yard touchdown run on their following possession. Brown wasn’t done. He found the endzone on UAB’s very next possession - a 7-play, 67-yard drive - to give the Blazers a 26-21 lead with 14:16 remaining. read more: https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/football/article220381355.html Read more here: https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/football/article220381355.html#storylink=cpy Read more here: https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/football/article220381355.html#storylink=cpy
