  1. Just posting this as a comparison as it appears that the DATCU/UNT deal will be similar what University of Houston did with TDECU, ie naming rights but also becoming the official financial services partner of the university. read more: https://stories.uh.edu/2023-june-tdecu-extension/index.html
  2. Probably not just Baylor. Throw in Iowa State, Kansas probably OU... This thing is getting real interesting. Also, of interest, there appears to be a bond between the privates and the public schools in all this. Abbott and the UT bigwigs bonding towards UofH seem to support this theory. http://www.ourdailybears.com/2016/7/24/12265856/baylor-should-oppose-houston-s-big-12-bid
  3. In the next step to a possible invitation into college football's elite fraternity, the University of Houston will open the checkbook and pay a record amount in assistant coaching salaries this season. The nine full-time assistants on new coach Tom Herman's staff will earn $2.113 million, a 17 percent increase from 2014, according to contracts obtained by the Houston Chronicle through an open-records request. The total - nearly $300,000 more than the $1.82 million from last season - puts UH ahead of a handful of schools from the Power 5 conferences based on the most recent salary-pool figures for last season. Herman called UH "a sleeping giant in college football," with the recent shift in resources and upgrades aimed to make the school a more attractive option for the next round of conference realignment. Along with allowing assistant coaches to be paid more, UH opened $128 million TDECU Stadium last September and has plans for a $20 million football-only indoor practice facility. 4. In the college athletics arms race, the University of Houston has been like a country that set aside almost no budget for its army. The school barely contributed to the ludicrousness that produced $15 billion in sports facilities spending between 1995 and 2005, according to Street & Smith's Business Journal. But with construction on the new TDECU Stadium in its final stages - the grand opening is slated for an Aug. 29 tilt against the University of Texas-San Antonio - UH has joined the fray. If you haven't heard, it is time to take note. With a $25 million basketball practice facility on tap, acknowledgement of the desperate need for a basketball arena, meeting rooms and locker room projects at the softball field, relatively new football practice fields and other work around the campus, UH athletics is indeed under construction. 5. That's right, if TCU is going to balk I say lets get on the horn with Mac Rhodes and geta LONG term deal with Houston, similar to what RV did with SMU. I know we are already going to play Rice but that is every other year and we could schedule the Houston series to put us there every year. Think of what we could sell recruits in Houston when we can say we will be there every single year. The long term goal in my mind is to have SMU, Houston and perhaps TCU non conference games every year. If you need a money game then play Texas (like we are in 2014)..
  6. North Texas at Houston - Cougars by 23 The Cougars stumbled a little bit out of the blocks against the Mean Green last year, but found their footing and cruised to a 25-point victory. This year the series shifts from Denton to Houston, and while UNT has most of their offensive starters returning (1,100-yard rusher Lance Dunbar excepted), their overall depth does take a hit. In total, North Texas loses 27 of 62 letterwinners. (By way of comparison, the Cougars are expected to be going through a "rebuilding year" and lose 18 of 71 letterwinners from 2011.) Dan McCarney is a good coach, and in the years to come, he'll have UNT competitive in the new Conference USA. But I just don't think that the 2012 version of the Mean Green has the horses to hang with the Cougars. The 23-point line seems low, if anything.
