  1. Sports Purdue Transfer Portal Targets At Each Position Group: Offense Since Jeff Brohm left West Lafayette for Louisville, Purdue has been rocked by transfer portal departures on top of the talent already headed to the NFL. Ryan Walters has seen a number of players announce their intentions to play next season elsewhere in the short time he has been head coach. After National Early Signing Day, Walters said “We will return to the recruiting trail and hit the transfer portal to put together a complete class in the spring.” Since Jeff Brohm left West Lafayette for Louisville, Purdue has been rocked by transfer portal departures on top of the talent already headed to the NFL. Ryan Walters has seen a number of players announce their intentions to play next season elsewhere in the short time he has been head coach. After National Early Signing Day, Walters said “We will return to the recruiting trail and hit the transfer portal to put together a complete class in the spring.” A veteran quarterback could look for a fresh start in Graham Harrell’s “Air Raid” offense and would immediately be the leader in the clubhouse for the starting job. Austin Aune: This is one of the most interesting stories in college football. Former North Texas quarterback Austin Aune will turn 30 years old in the first month of next football season and has entered the transfer portal. read more: https://emeatribune.com/purdue-transfer-portal-targets-at-each-position-group-offense/
  2. Braden Smith offered by Purdue The recruitment of Westfield guard Braden Smith shifted significantly Monday evening when Purdue offered a scholarship during a Zoom call. Smith, a 6-foot guard who averaged 22.0 points and 6.2 assists as a junior while shooting 45.1% from the 3-point line, had previous offers from IUPUI, Appalachian State, Belmont, Montana, North Texas and Toledo. Purdue is the first high-major offer for Smith but certainly not the last. The Boilermakers, who have IndyStar Mr. Basketball Caleb Furst and runner-up Trey Kaufman-Renn signed in the 2021 class, along with Indiana All-Star Brian Waddell, already have a commitment from Homestead’s Fletcher Loyer in the 2022 class. Purdue also has an offer out to 6-10 Jalen Washington of Gary West Side, a top-25 national prospect in the 2022 class. Purdue coach Matt Painter has been successful identifying, recruiting and retaining in-state players in recent seasons. Whether that means anything in Smith’s recruitment is still to be seen, but it does seem significant that Purdue is his first high-major offer. 3. Brandon Garner heard from UNT’s coaches on a regular basis up until he committed to Purdue during his junior season. Once he backed out of that pledge, Mean Green’s staff picked up its efforts again and saw them pay off Wednesday afternoon when the Mansfield Timberview linebacker committed to play for the Mean Green. Garner decommitted from Purdue three weeks ago. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2013/07/brandon-garner-talks-unt.html/
  4. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Norwood attends Grace Prep Academy in Arlington, Texas. Norwood's family (mom, dad and sister) flew to Chicago and drove to West Lafayette on Tuesday to tour the campus and speak with the Boilermaker coaching staff. “It was great,” Norwood said. “I loved everything in touring the campus, the people and the atmosphere. The coaches and the players made it feel like home and a place where I could see myself next year and in the future.” The visit left a lasting impression. "Just going up there and seeing everything really put them at the top of my list," he said. Other offers Norwood said Tulsa, North Texas, San Diego State, Texas State and Georgia State offered scholarships, but Purdue clearly had the advantage after Tuesday. “Location isn’t a problem and I wanted to check it out myself and see everything," he said.
