  3. North Texas’ search for a new head coach took a turn over the last day with TCU assistant coach Doug Meacham going from appearing to be on the verge of landing the job back to be just a candidate for the position. Meacham is still in the running for the job, according to sources at UNT, but at this point it appears as if the school is turning its attention to its other finalist — North Carolina assistant Seth Littrell. A source close to Littrell suggested that the sides have already discussed parameters of a contract, one that could be ready to be finalized. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal would only say that the school is still in the process of finalizing its decision while denying a report Monday that the school had settled on Meacham as its next coach. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/11/monday-night-search-update-where-unt-goes-from-here.html/
  4. Posted Today, 10:03 PM Congrats Coach! Wish you great success! Brad Hardcastle (@Brad_Hardcastle) tweeted at 11:06 PM on Sun, Nov 29, 2015: Looks like #TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham is taking the #UNT job, according to reports by @brettvito. Nothing official yet. Patterson's head coaching tree expands, never a bad thing when attracting new assistant coaches. Congrats to Coach Meach. http://www.killerfrogs.com/msgboard/index.php?/topic/196715-meacham-new-hc-at-unt/
  5. Posted: Saturday December 6, 2014 12:00 am FYI Montgomery makes $800K a year. Will be interesting to see where our new staff salary falls in line. Cross one name off the list of candidates for the University of Tulsa football opening. On Friday, TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham declined a request to interview for the vacancy, a source close to the situation told the Tulsa World. Meacham, a finalist for the Broyles Award, played at Oklahoma State and was an assistant there under Mike Gundy for eight seasons before spending a year at Houston and moving to TCU this year. Following the dismissal of four-year coach Bill Blankenship on Monday morning, TU started conducting out-of-town interviews Wednesday. Among those who have interviewed with athletic director Derrick Gragg is Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, a 29-year-old native of Tulsa. 7. North Texas is on the verge of announcing who will take over as its new head football coach. UNT lost to UTEP 20-17 in its final game of the season Saturday at Apogee Stadium. Several of the coaches UNT is talking to about taking over the program finished their regular seasons with their current programs over the last few days. TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and North Carolina assistant head coach for offense Seth Littrell are among the coaches in the mix. A UNT source confirmed Saturday that both are among the final few coaches in the running for the position, but said it is premature to say that the school has narrowed its focus just to those two coaches. “We have done our due diligence and will make a decision soon,” UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said shortly after the game. “All of the things that we have to do are dependent on people’s schedules.” UNT is seeking a coach to take over for Dan McCarney, who was fired five games into his fifth season with the Mean Green. The Mean Green have posted just one winning season in their last 11 and tied the school record for losses in a season after falling to UTEP. UNT finished 1-11, matching the mark set in 2008 under Todd Dodge. read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/sports-headlines/20151128-villarreal-coach-decision-coming-soon.ece
  8. TCU assistant Doug Meacham will interview at North Texas for the open head coaching position as one of two finalists, according to a person familiar with the interview schedule. North Carolina assistant Seth Littrell is the other finalist. Meacham has been the offensive coordinator at TCU the past two seasons. He was hired from Houston, where he was offensive coordinator, to install the Air Raid offense for the Horned Frogs and brought in Sonny Cumbie from Texas Tech as co-offensive coordinator. Under Meacham and Cumbie, the TCU offense has been one of the best in the country, and quarterback Trevone Boykin has been a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2014 and 2015 after spending the previous two seasons at running back and wide receiver. The Horned Frogs are 22-3 the past two seasons. read more: http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article46934515.html Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article46934515.html#storylink=cpyread more:
  9. TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham is one of two candidates who North Texas has closed in on as it nears the end of its search for its next head coach, FootballScoop reported Friday. According to FootballScoop, UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal is expected to interview Meacham on Sunday and hopes to announce a hire early next week. Seth Littrell, North Carolina's assistant head coach for offense, is the other name mentioned in FootballScoop's report. read more: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/tcu-horned-frogs/20151127-report-tcu-co-offensive-coordinator-meacham-among-finalists-of-unt-coaching-search.ece

  11. Meacham is not getting as much pub as Riley and Briles, probably because he is a little older (50). He played in college at Ok St. with current TCU asst coach Curtis Luper who is an outstanding recruiter. Perhaps we could lure the both of them? He's certainly a guy that deserves some consideration as he is from this area. 4. Doug Meacham, TCU co-offensive coordinator: The former Oklahoma State offensive lineman has been coaching since 1989, but is yet to get his first head coaching gig. That may change this winter, as he's raised his profile a bit at TCU. He took over a TCU offense that scored only 25.1 points per game in 2013 and immediately improved that number to 46.5 points per game in 2014. This year, the Frogs are scoring 44.3. In his one season at Houston, before joining TCU's staff, the Cougars scored 33.2 points per game. It's obvious that between his eight seasons on Mike Gundy's staff at Oklahoma State, and his years at Houston and TCU, Meacham has learned how to put together a potent offense, and he might be ready to branch out on his own at this point. read more: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25382398/friday-five-the-best-coaching-candidates-nobodys-talking-about

  13. Athlon Sports article on the top ten coordinators on the rise. Several names with Texas ties, which I think is a must for this next hire. 2. Doug Meacham, Co-Offensive Coordinator, TCU Meacham’s arrival in 2014 was a big reason why TCU emerged as a playoff contender last season and is in the mix once again in 2015. The Horned Frogs averaged only 25.1 points a game in 2013 but jumped to 46.5 last season and 51 per contest in 2015. Prior to joining Gary Patterson’s staff at TCU, Meacham called the plays at Houston in 2013 and worked as an assistant for Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State from 2005-12. 3. Mike Norvell, Offensive Coordinator, Arizona State Norvell has experienced a fast rise through the assistant ranks. After working for one season as a graduate assistant at Central Arkansas in 2006, Norvell was hired by Todd Graham at Tulsa in 2007 and worked with the Golden Hurricane until 2010. The Texas native followed Graham to Pittsburgh in 2011 and to Arizona State in 2012. Norvell has called the plays since coming to Tempe, and the Sun Devils never finished lower than third in scoring offense within the Pac-12 from 2012-14. 4. Lincoln Riley, Offensive Coordinator, Oklahoma Riley is a Mike Leach and Air Raid disciple, and despite the sluggish showing against Texas in Week 6, the first-year coordinator is off to a fast start at Oklahoma. The Sooners are averaging 37 points per game and 6.4 yards per play in 2015. The Texas native worked at Texas Tech under Leach from 2007-09 and was hired by Ruffin McNeill at East Carolina prior to the 2010 season. The Pirates had a prolific offense under Riley, including a No. 2 rank in the American Athletic Conference in 2014 by averaging 35.8 points per game. Riley is just 32 years old and is stock will only increase over the next few seasons. 5. Kendal Briles, Offensive Coordinator, Baylor After Philip Montgomery left Baylor to be the head coach at Tulsa, Briles was handed the keys to a high-powered Ferrari. While his father – Art Briles – is instrumental in the Bears’ offense, this unit is thriving under Kendal’s direction. Through five games, Baylor is averaging 64.2 points a game and ranks first nationally by averaging 9.1 yards per play. The Texas native has worked as an assistant with the Bears since 2008 and is regarded as one of the Big 12’s top recruiters. - See more at: http://athlonsports.com/college-football/college-footballs-top-10-coordinators-rise-2015#sthash.ZuAVjvbq.dpuf
  14. Doug Meacham Age: 50 Current position: Co-Offensive Coordinator/Inside WR - TCU Alma Mater: Oklahoma State Current Salary: $300K (2014) Career: Doug Meacham joined the TCU football staff as offensive coordinator in December 2013. In his first season at TCU, Meacham helped the Horned Frogs become the nation's most improved offense in total yards (+188.2 ypg) and scoring (+21.4 ppg). TCU's 21.4 points per game improvement broke the Big 12 record of 19.1 set by Oklahoma in 1999 (35.8; 16.7, 1998) and was the largest improvement by any team since Northwestern went up 24.0 points between 1999-00. The 2014 Horned Frogs ranked second in the nation in scoring (46.5 ppg) and tied for fifth in total offense (533.0 ypg). TCU set 26 school records for offense in winning its first Big 12 championship as well as the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Meacham was a 2014 finalist for the Broyles Award, recognizing the nation's top assistant coach. Meacham came to the Horned Frogs after serving as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Houston in the 2013 season. TCU marks the sixth school that Meacham has been an offensive coordinator. In addition to his role at Houston, Meacham coordinated offenses at Samford (2002-04), Henderson State (1999-00), Jacksonville State (1997-99) and Georgia Military (1994-96). Prior to arriving at Houston, Meacham spent eight seasons (2005-12) as the tight ends/inside receivers coach at Oklahoma State. He was the Cowboys' passing game coordinator in the 2008-09 campaigns. Meacham was part of two of the most successful eras in Oklahoma State football history, first as a student-athlete (1984-87) and then during his tenure as an assistant coach. As a student-athlete, Meacham was teammates with TCU wide receivers coach Curtis Luper. The Cowboys ranked in the top 10 nationally in offense and averaged at least 40 points in five of Meacham's last six seasons in Stillwater. Oklahoma State was in the top five in the country in total offense in the 2010-12 campaigns, when it scored more than 50 points 15 times, broke the 60-point mark in seven contests, 70 points twice and the 80-point plateau once.
