  2. "Hurricane Katrina took away Cyril Lemon's home and separated him from some of his family and close friends. But it gave him a chance at a better life. That's why Lemon is back in New Orleans 10 years later, chasing an improbable dream as an undrafted rookie guard with the New Orleans Saints." 3. Call him Protectus Availabus Offensive guard Cyril Lemon has never missed a game on the North Texas Mean Green football team Call him Displacus Katrinus Lemon, his mother, aunt and grandmother started an exodus with their church as Hurricane Katrina bore down on New Orleans’ Ninth Ward. For forty days they roamed the Texas landscape until they settled in Marble Falls, Texas. “It was an unsettling time,” said June Lemon, Cyril’s mother. “We had to trust in God because we didn’t know where we were going to land.” “The journey showed me that life is going to throw you curves,” Lemon said. “How you handle it creates the person you are. The people who experienced Katrina either elevated themselves or went lower. The challenges in life bring out the best in you. I wouldn’t be where I’m at if it wasn’t for Katrina.” To him, the Ninth Ward … “It wasn’t like the suburbs,” Lemon said. “It wasn’t magnificent, but it was nice.” “Cyril used football as an outlet,” said Monique Breaux, Lemon’s aunt. “He was uprooted from all he knew. He thought when he left New Orleans that he would get to see his friends again. He used football to express his emotions on the field.” Read more: http://whodatdish.com/2015/05/12/new-orleans-saints-undrafted-rookie-profile-cyril-lemon/
  4. MARBLE FALLS — As the Arizona Cardinals closed out the 2015 NFL Draft by choosing Louisville’s Gerald Christian as “Mr. Irrelevant” with the final pick May 2, former Marble Falls High School offensive lineman Cyril Lemon’s heart sank. But then Lemon, who was a four-year starter at right guard for the University of North Texas, was flooded with calls from front offices around the league asking him if he’d like to sign a free agent contract and head to their camp. Among the callers were the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, the Atlanta Falcons, the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints. In the end, Lemon chose New Orleans, the city he left as an eighth-grader to escape Hurricane Katrina, though returning to Louisiana wasn’t really a factor in his decisions, he said. “I felt like I had a better chance of making the team,” he said. “I like the style of offense they run. It’s my best option to make the team.” He said he also considered the Cowboys. The Saints’ offensive line coach is Bret Ingalls. Lemon said he looks forward to asking questions and learning the ways of being a professional athlete. “I think I’ll enjoy any NFL coach,” he said. “I’m there to learn, to grow.” Read more: http://www.dailytrib.com/2015/05/04/saints-coming-marching-in-for-former-marble-falls-lineman/#ixzz3ZDPgPDnf
  5. Offensive lineman Cyril Lemon signed with the New Orleans Saints, Derek Akunne went to the Atlanta Falcons and Antonio Johnson landed with the NY Jets. Great careers for all three of them and we all wish them the best at the next level! GMG This post has been promoted to an article
  6. DENTON Cyril Lemon has been fine-tuning all sorts of job skills the past several months. He has been reviewing information, learning how to answer interview questions and even improving his physical stamina. The 2011 Marble Falls High School graduate and former University of North Texas lineman is preparing for the 2015 NFL Draft. Its the biggest interview Ive ever had in my life, he said. I can compare it to a college students first big job interview coming out of college. You have to put your foot forward and give it all you got. It can determine where you go in life. Lemon was one of five Mean Green players to participate in the UNT pro day March 26. During the 2½-hour event, he completed 14 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press, had a broad jump mark of 8 feet 4 inches and a vertical leap of 24 inches, and ran the 40-yard dash between 5.26 seconds and 5.4 seconds. Lemon said he was disappointed with the results of the bench press portion, adding that he hit 20 in workouts. He had also previously leapt as high as 27 inches in the vertical jump. 7. Nearly a dozen pro football scouts, including representatives from the Cowboys, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets came to UNT’s pro day this morning to get a look at the Mean Green’s top draft prospects. It depends on the year in terms of what I am able to run down as far as unofficial results. Unfortunately, the scouts who came by this year went inside to a room set aside for them this year to exchange information on 40-yard dash times since it was cold out. Here is what I came up with … OL Cyril Lemon — 14 bench reps, 30 inch vertical leap, 8-4 broad jump LB Derek Akunne — 19 bench reps, 35 1/2 vertical leap, 4.6 40-yard dash Read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/03/unt-pro-day-tidbits.html/
  8. When the North Texas Mean Green come to Austin on Saturday to face off against the Texas Longhorns in the 2014 season opener, there won't be a lot of recognizable names on head coach Dan McCarney's squad. So let's take a look at five players Horns fans should get to know before the game. Quarterback Josh Greer The Navarro College transfer who succeeded Miles Onyegbule at quarterback for Arlington High, Greer wasn't named the starting quarterback for the Mean Green until Monday. The 6'5, 220-pounder took a circuitous route to Denton, having chosen UAB over North Texas during his recruitment as a member of the 2012 class. Considered a pro-style prospect, Greer was a consensus two-star prospect who left Birmingham quickly and didn't manage to earn any more stars during his year in Corsicana, even though he won the SWJCFC championship in throwing for 256 yards and a touchdown. After arriving during the spring, Greer beat out an older player in Andrew McNulty and Austin-area product Dajon Williams, who was simply too inconsistent with little seasoning out of Pflugerville Connally. Since the North Texas offense tried to spread defenses out horizontally, look for the Mean Green coaches to ask Greer to make some simple passes to start out the game, while biding some time to take a shot or two. read more: http://www.burntorangenation.com/football/2014/8/28/6077249/texas-longhorns-north-texas-mean-green-players-to-watch
  9. 5. Cyril Lemon, G, North Texas: No other active FBS player entering his senior season has started every game of his college career; Lemon has started all 37 games. No other active FBS player has been named all-conference three years in a row. Whether that speaks more to the mass exodus of underclassmen who populated the 2014 NFL Draft is a fair question. Still, there are few prospects in the senior class with the experience or consistency of performance that Lemon has demonstrated for the Mean Green. He's been an anchor for an offensive line that has allowed only 17 sacks over the past two seasons -- the lowest in the country over that time. It's likely the NFL would like to see him add a little bulk. Right now, Lemon is on the lean side (6-3, 304); Xavier Su'a-Filo was the first of 12 guards drafted in 2014, and he was the smallest at 6-4, 307. 10. OG Cyril Lemon, North Texas, Senior (6-3 | 304 | 5.34 | #62) A reigning All-Conference first teamer, Lemon has started 37 straight games and is the only FBS player to start every game of his college career and be named All-Conference three straight seasons. He shows the strength and base to be a stout interior player and also the versatility to kick outside at tackle in a pinch, filling in at right tackle twice last season. Lemon will likely start at right guard in 2014 and is one of the more underrated senior offensive line prospects entering the season. 11. The honors continue to come in for UNT’s offensive line that was a key component of the Mean Green’s run to a a 9-4 finish and a win over UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl last season. Guards Cyril Lemon and Mason Y’Barbo were both named to the Lombardi Award watch list on Monday. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/
  12. A lot of good pub for Lemon as of late had me thinking... There have been varying reports as to whether or not he will play tackle or guard this season. Does anyone have anything update on this? I know that him playing tackle will make him more attractive at the next level, but I would sure like to see us ween a younger player at tackle if we could like Rentfro etc.. Looking at the 2015 season, we lose both our tackles if Lemon moves over there as he and Antonio Johnson will both graduate. That said, with a new QB we need to be especially solid at tackle this season.
  13. DALLAS — And to think Cyril Lemon almost didn’t visit the University of North Texas. The 2011 Marble Falls High School graduate took one last trip in February of his senior year and found his new home with the Mean Green. Three years later, Lemon, a junior, is a solid fixture on the North Texas offensive line and leads the nation in consecutive starts for his position at 36. Head coach Dan McCarney was so impressed with Lemon during his final year at Marble Falls that he told the player he would be a starter for the Mean Green when he arrived on campus. “You have to keep your body right, eat right and take it day by day,” the coach told him. This season, the former Mustang helped the Mean Green to its first bowl game since 2004. UNT will play the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on New Year’s Day. Kickoff is 11 a.m. Read more: http://www.dailytrib.com/2013/12/31/former-mustang-cyril-lemon-help-leads-mean-green-bowl-game/#ixzz2p4IJ1j73

  15. The entire o-line played well at times but I gotta say it, Cyril Lemon was just terrific. If you watch the video on one of the long Jeremy Brown runs, Lemon pancakes the LSU tackle. He's only a sophomore. Boy -- this kid is going to be something special by the time he's finished out here.
