  1. HOOVER, Ala. — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher can’t wait for the College Football Playoff to expand to 12 teams from its current four, and not only because the Aggies finished No. 5 in last year’s final CFP tabulation leading to the postseason. “I’m all for it,” Fisher said Wednesday, the third of four SEC Media Days. “It’s necessary and needed. … Name me a sport in any collegiate level that, except for the top five conferences, which are about 60 teams, where the other 60 teams have no chance to win a national championship. 2. "It's never going to stay at four," said one FBS head coach. "It's going to expand because they'll never keep everybody happy." How soon can we expect such growth to occur? The first time Alabama gets left out of the field? Or when a politician from Idaho or Utah steps in front of Congress and complains about Boise State or BYU or some other team from a non-power conference being unfairly left out of the four-team field? A few coaches, like Notre Dame's Brian Kelly and Stanford's David Shaw, believe a four-team playoff is only the starting point. "I don't know that four is where we're going to finish this thing," Kelly said last year. "I think it's a great entry into where we want to go. Moving forward, I think the focus will be on whether it's eight or 16 or whatever the number is." 3. It's time to quit pretending. Marshall is never going to play in an FBS national championship game like Florida State and Auburn will Monday night. Never ever. At least, not in the current format. Marshall never will reach the four-team playoff that begins after the 2014 regular season. Even if the Herd goes 12-0, it still won't happen. The five power conferences -- SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and ACC -- simply won't allow it. Read More: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x780154967/Marshall-should-get-to-play-for-title-too
