When sizing up the North Texas running game heading into the 2015 season, it’s easy to focus on 2014 starter Antoinne Jimmerson and Jeffrey Wilson, the Mean Green’s rising star at running back. That’s OK with Willy Ivery. The sophomore played only sparingly last season and has yet to crack the two-tier depth chart. It’s the flashes of dynamic speed and playmaking ability Ivery has shown in limited action that indicate he could be a lot more than just a backup buried in the depths of UNT’s roster this fall. “Nobody overlooks Willy,” Wilson said. “If you come to practice, you can see that he has respect. If you don’t respect him, he’s going to make sure that you start respecting him. Willy is a great back. As soon as he came in, we knew he would be a game changer. UNT finished off one of the final official visit weekends before national signing day and it’s all quiet on the home front. There were a host of key prospects in town over the weekend. Sulphur Springs running back Willy Ivery has committed to UNT. He was always pretty high on UNT’s wish list, and for good reason. He is a three-star running back with offers from New Mexico, Colorado State and Toledo, among others.
