  1. It’s official now. Josh Greer is on board with UNT. The former Arlington standout, who made stops at UAB and Navarro JC, confirmed this afternoon that he committed to UNT. Greer also had offers from Florida International and Georgia State. Greer was recruited by Mike Canales and Mike Grant and has three years of eligibility remaining. “Ever since I was in high school, I liked North Texas,” Greer said. “I enjoyed my visit. The final selling point for me was coach Canales. He sealed it and made me feel like North Texas is the best place for me.” Read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2013/12/greer-talks-about-decision-to-commit-to-unt.html/
  2. UNT will host a group of key recruits this weekend as we count down the days toward national signing day. First off, let’s talk about UNT’s scholarship situation. The number of spots UNT has left has been a bit of a moving target with players committing and decommitting. With Garrett Davis backing out to sign with Houston and defensive lineman T.J. Tauaalo committing, UNT now has two spots left. I was under the impression that UNT was down to one. Like I said, moving target. UNT will host the following players this weekend: Read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/01/where-unt-stands-heading-into-the-weekend-recruiting-wise.html/
  3. DL: T.J. Tauaalo, 6–1, 285, Keller Central (Fort Worth, Texas) Results: 5.39 40, 4.78 SH, 35.5′ PB, 26.8″ VJ, 74.58 SPARQ Breakdown: The sleeper defensive tackle was a handful for the offensive linemen all day. He showed the same skill set that made him stand out on film, great hands off the ball, and a mix of ability to penetrate into the backfield and anchor down to eat space. Tauaalo went a bit under the radar, but was a name that kept popping up in film review of the camp. Read more: http://www.studentsports.com/blog/2013/04/17/dallas-nftc-all-camp-team/
  4. UNT recruits had a heck of a run in the state championship games over the last few days at AT&T Stadium. UNT wide receiver recruits O’Keeron Rutherford and Tee Goree both had big games while helping lead Carthage past Kilgore in the Class 3A, Division I state title game. Rutherford (three catches, 79 yards) and Goree (three catches, 51 yards and 44 rushing yards, two touchdowns) look like really good gets for UNT. 5. Dallas Lincoln was one of the most pleasant surprises in the DFW area in 2012. Despite a limited number of players and coaches for that matter, the Tigers won district 12-4A with a perfect 7-0 record and finished the season 10-2. The Tigers are loaded for the 2014 class with brothers Erick Neal and Derrick Neal, TCU commit Emmanuel Porter and Aaron Jenkins headlining the impressive class. Jenkins was a force on both sides of the ball; on defense he totaled 43 tackles, 18 TFL, 4 sacks while producing 27 pancake blocks on offense. We did real good, we were short of people and some of us had to go both ways and play iron man football, he said. Plus, we only had four coaches so with the amount of people we had we did real good. Jenkins, who at 6-foot-2, 280-pounds, is one of those iron man players, feels he did well in his first season for the Tigers after moving from Duncanville. I think I did pretty good for my first time playing defense in high school, he said. On the offensive line I think I did pretty good. I like the offensive line because Ive played it longer but I know Ill probably have to play the defensive line when I get to college. Not surprisingly, college programs are already intrigued by Jenkins ability. He already has two offers in the fold and once coaches see the film from his junior campaign, that number will certainly increase. Im getting interest from North Texas, Houston and Rice right now, he said. UNT and Houston have offered. They offered as a defensive tackle or they said I might play center.
