  3. Sam Houston State announced its list of five finalists for its next football coach, including Northwest Missouri State athletic director Mel Tjeerdsma. The longtime Bearcats football coach acknowledged Saturday he would interview Tuesday for the position vacated by former Central Missouri coach Willie Fritz, who left to become coach at Georgia Southern after four years at the Texas school. On Sunday, the school announced the other candidates, which include former Delaware coach K.C. Keeler, Virginia offensive line coach Scott Wachenheim, former Texas offensive coordinator Darrell Wyatt and North Texas offensive coordinator Michael Canales. “Each of these candidates meet the criteria we set out when we started our search,” Sam Houston State athletic director Bobby Williams told the Hunstville Item. “The quality of interest for our head coaching position has been impressive.
