DENTON, Texas — Except for what happened in the first three minutes of the third quarter, UL Ragin' Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth wasn't happy at all with how UL's offense performed in the second half of a 30-23 Sun Belt Conference loss Tuesday night at North Texas. For that, sophomore quarterback Terrance Broadway — making just his second start as a Cajun in place of the injured Blaine Gautier — shouldered much of the responsibility. "Including myself, I feel that we didn't make the plays that we normally make," Broadway said after the Cajuns blew a 14-point lead in the game's final 21 minutes. "And that starts with me. "Our defense put us in position to make plays, and we didn't make them. "It all starts with me," the University of Houston transfer added. "The ball touches my hands every play, so I'm taking the fall for it." Broadway used his feet for a 75-yard touchdown run in Tuesday's second quarter. He went 13-of-17 through the air for 116 yards with one interception in the opening half, then hit two of his first three passes — a 55-yard on-the-money completion down the left sideline to wide out Javone Lawson, and a 10-yard touchdown strike two plays later to slot receiver Harry Peoples — to open the third quarter and help put UL up 20-6. After starting 15-of-20 for 201 yards, though, Broadway went just 11-of-21 for 64 yards and no TDs the rest of the way — frequently seeming to try to land for the knockout punch rather than patiently jabbing away. And while he did nearly connect on one long ball to the end zone — Darryl Surgent couldn't quite pull in the pass — Broadway wound up 26-of-41 for 265 yards with the one TD and the one INT. UL's ground game, meanwhile, managed just 106 net yards — 75 of them on Broadway's long run, and minus-5 total in the second half. "I was disappointed, basically, in our second half," Hudspeth said. "We were up two touchdowns, and, I thought, doing some good things. "And, second half, (we) just got inept offensively, and kept putting our defense in tough situations. And, man, I thought early (that defense) played well.
