  2. Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale has placed another exorbitant gamble on a Houston sports team. This time, it's $1 million on the Houston Cougars winning the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The odds of the furniture owner's wager sat at 9-1 odds, meaning he would win $9 million if the hometown program can come through for him. He made the gamble with DraftKings, and the organization says that it's one of the largest March Madness bets on record. "Anything can happen in March Madness as we all know, but I'm ten toes down on Houston to bring the national title to Texas, and willing to stake a million dollars with DraftKings on that outcome," said McIngvale, per KPRC 2. read more: https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/mattress-mack-places-1-million-bet-on-houston-to-win-2021-ncaa-tournament/
  3. I haven't been plugged into much news about this upcoming football season. Can someone point me to an existing thread or explain where UNT stands right now in terms of its schedule? I know A&M has cancelled all non-conference games this season but assuming C-USA doesn't shut down this season are we still expecting to play our non-conference opponents as it stands today? SMU, Houston, HBU? If we are still planning on playing everyone on schedule besides A&M, this season doesn't seem completely lost as I had once thought. As long as CUSA doesn't cancel, I feel pretty good about our success in the upcoming season.

  5. I'm sure some of you will make this into a "OMG he's a Democrat" post but a former fraternity brother of mine and former SGA President Dakota Carter won the runoff for the nomination for Texas State Board of Education Place 6. He's a great guy and in residency and has some great ideas for Texas education, and he's not a nutjob like that woman who thought Obama was a gay prostitute. Anyway, give him a look. And if you're in Houston, remember his name come November. Dakota Carter

  7. The contention is over a talking head's article which sort of implied a recruiting violation in UH picking up QB Kyle Allen of A&M. http://chirb.it/NNfnf8 It's amazing. And hilarious. And amazing again.
  8. Props to UofH for these. (Now let's steal this idea instead of using those pixelated signatures) Building that #Brand et cetera, et cetera

  10. http://sportstalksc.com/index.php/2015/11/24/usc-coaching-search-whos-hot-whos-not-verson-1-0/ Although not set in stone, it's looking like South Carolina is gunning for Herman. So Houston might be looking for a new coach soon as well
  11. Houston: The University of Houston Board of Regents has approved raising Tom Herman’s salary to $3 million per year. As we understand it, this is the Board approving this in advance. The two sides haven’t agreed to a new contract yet. AD Hunter Yuracheck notes they intend to present their best possible offer to Herman shortly. read more: http://footballscoop.com/the-scoop/
  12. One of the big offseason stories in Texas college football has been the arrival of new head coaches at SMU (Chad Morris) and Houston (Tom Herman). Each comes with an impressive pedigree and landed at schools with some inherent advantages due to location and something to sell as a member of the American Athletic Conference. Whether or not it’s true, each will tell recruits the American is the best conference in America outside of the Power Five. I bring it up because Dave Campbell’s Texas Football made the argument that the pair will end up ruling Texas college football outside the power leagues. … read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/06/dctf-argues-houston-smu-should-be-top-g5-programs-in-state.html/
  13. Houston: The University of Houston is looking for a home game for the 2014 season. September 20th and 27th are open; but have some flexibility for other dates as well. Future years are negotiable. Please call Ken McClintock at 713.743.9390 or email krmcclin@central.uh.edu if interested.

  15. While UNT had to punt on its first three possessions, Houston scored 17 points. In the second quarter, UNT’s running game broke out with two touchdowns of its own. Redshirt freshman Antoinne Jimmerson scored on a one-yard touchdown and senior Jeremy Brown had a 48-yard touchdown of his own, where he broke multiple tackles en route to pulling the team within 10 points. But the Houston offense always had a response to a Mean Green score. In the third quarter, a seven-yard rushing touchdown by redshirt junior quarterback Derek Thompson once again pulled the Mean Green within 10 points of the Cougars. However, the Cougars went on to score 10 straight points to push the lead to 41-21 at the end of the third quarter. On the night, Houston racked up 624 total yards and scored on eight of 11 possessions. In last year’s 48-23 loss to Houston, the Cougars gained 690 total yards and 32 first downs to spoil Apogee Stadium’s opening in Denton. Houston also ran 77 plays on the night, getting 35 first downs. That’s a first down every 2.2 plays. Sims had a career night for Houston, rushing for 210 yards on 10 attempts (21 yards per rush) and reeling in 55 receiving yards. He had two total touchdowns. The top performer for the Mean Green was Brown with 80 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards. He had one touchdown. “We will be back,” head coach Dan McCarney said. “There is a lot of character in that locker room. Kids are hurting and coaches are hurting. We care. We expect to win and when we don’t we’re really disappointed.” UNT will play the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Tuesday, Oc. 16 in Denton for the Mean Green’s only home game in the month of October.
