  1. DENTON, Texas — Mason Fine cooked the Golden Eagles again. And after Saturday's performance, he ought to have the recipe just right. North Texas pulled away late for a 30-7 win over Southern Miss, Fine's third win in as many seasons over the Golden Eagles. "At some point, you just have to give credit where credit is due," Southern Miss linebacker Jeremy Sangster said. "That guy is good. Really, really good." The senior threw for 292 yards and a touchdown. Statistically, it was an underwhelming performance for the Maxwell and Manning Award candidate. But what the stats don't show is Fine's ability to scramble — the way he avoids sacks and gets rid of the football or how he never pulls the ball and keeps his eyes down field. It also doesn't show how he kept getting back up after Sangster planted him in the ground twice in the first quarter and again in the third. read more: https://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/southern-miss/2018/10/13/southern-miss-falls-north-texas-30-7/1630775002/
  2. HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss defensive coordinator Tim Billings knows what his team is preparing for this Saturday. "They're the best offense we've played this year," Billings said Monday about North Texas, USM's upcoming opponent. "You can talk about Auburn and their players as far as offensively, but this is a team that put up 47 points on Arkansas. . .by far they are the most dynamic offense that we've faced to date." Statistically, it's hard to refute Billings' point. North Texas is averaging 41.5 points per game this season, the best mark in Conference USA and a top-20 mark in the FBS. The Mean Green have one of the most dominant passing offenses in college football, led by quarterback Mason Fine and his 15 touchdowns with just one interception. Fine is averaging 319 passing yards per game, putting him just ahead of USM's Jack Abraham for the best mark in the league and eighth in all of college football. read more: https://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/story/sports/college/southern-miss/2018/10/09/southern-miss-football-prepares-north-texas-offense-mason-fine/1568988002/
