  2. OFFICIAL: SMU vs NTS Predictions http://www.ponyfans.com/phpBB3/styles/we_clearblue/imageset/icon_post_target.gifby ALEX LIFESON » Sun Aug 28, 2022 12:36 pm Normally do the official prediction thread on Monday, but since North Texas State has already played a game, let's do this a day early. Watching their game last night, they looked better than last year, taking a seven win UTEP team to the woodshed, in front of a big home crowd. They were also missing a couple of starting receivers and one of their top defenders..... but guess what, all are expected back for the SMU game. Could be a tough one in Denton. You know the old saying, teams improve the most, from week one to week two. read more: http://www.ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=91409&sid=25bd278cdb08dbce04f32148f89000c0
  3. In the opener matchup versus UTEP, North Texas scored 14 points in both the second and third quarters during a 31-13 win. Austin Aune threw for 236 yards and three scores, while Ayo Adeyi rushed for 80 yards on 17 carries. Roderic Burns posted three catches for 72 yards as well. The Mustangs are 5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games and 22-7 ATS in their last 29 in September. SMU is 8-21 in their last 29 road games. Meanwhile, the Green are 5-0 ATS in their last five on turf and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. North Texas is 0-4 ATS in their last four versus the AAC. PICK: I’m probably going with SMU here. New head coach Rhett Lashlee and his staff have their work cut out for them, but if all goes well the Mustangs are certainly capable of making some noise in the conference this year. Three of the team’s top four targets (Danny Gray, Reggie Roberson and Grant Calcaterra) are gone, so we’ll be seeing some new faces in the fray along with No. 1 receiver Rashee Rice. SMU should throw the ball often, and if the running game can tag along with average numbers the team will win games. I think it’ll all start here with a cover. That said, North Texas looked pretty good against UTEP with their 24 first downs and 5.7 yards per play on Saturday. You wouldn’t be crazy for jumping on the Mean Green bandwagon. 4. News arrived concerning a former Texas football head coach early this week, indicating that he will be shifting his role from coaching to the broadcast booth. Former Texas head coach Tom Herman is reportedly set to join the CBS Sports broadcast team this fall. Herman’s first game as a color analyst with CBS Sports will reportedly come on Sep. 3, when the North Texas Mean Green out of Conference-USA takes on the SMU Mustangs out of the American Athletic Conference. Moreover, this is definitely an interesting shift in roles for Herman after he joined the Chicago Bears as an offensive analyst/special projects coach following his departure from Texas a couple of years ago. Herman wound up spending just one season on staff with the Bears before making this shift to the commentator booth. read more: https://hookemheadlines.com/2022/08/08/former-texas-football-hc-tom-herman-to-join-cbs-broadcast-team/
  5. Upcoming AAC Realignment In one of the biggest conference “trades” in NCAA history, three current American Athletic Conference teams – Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF – will be leaving for the Big 12 before the 2023 academic year. Six C-USA teams replacing them (FAU, UAB, Charlotte, Rice, North Texas, and UTSA) would do so at the same time, to prevent the AAC from dropping to just eight teams. The buyout for the AAC schools is going to be $18 million each. That’s the standard $10 million buyout fee, plus another $8 million each to leave early. The buyout will be paid over 14 years. Meanwhile, lawyers with billable hours are still working out further details on the new incoming schools. With it, the American will compete as a 14-team league in football after the transition next summer. MEMPHIS – ATTRITION MISSION – 7.5 W – *7 / 6 The Tigers’ 7-year bowl streak came to an end last season. The culprit was the Tigers’ shoddy 5-7 mark ‘In The Stats’ (ITS) as they now stand 10-13 ITS in all games under Ryan Silverfield, including 2-7 away. This pales in comparison to the 34-20 ITS mark in the Mike Norvell years from 2016-2019. Thus, you can see where erosion is occurring. Despite seniors making 145 of the 260 overall team starts last season, they will line up with a good amount of returning experience this season. With four of its first five games this campaign against foes with losing records in 2021, a fast start is imperative if Memphis is to revisit the alleys this season. PLAY AGAINST: at Mississippi State (9/3) – *KEY STAT YOU WILL LIKE: The Tigers are 0-9 ATS away under head coach Ryan Silverfield. SMU – 50 LASHES – 7 W – *6 / 7 New head coach Rhett Lashlee led what should have been a mess of a Miami offense to a top-50 rank in points-per-drive last season while developing young star Tyler Van Dyke in the process. His reward was landing the top spot with an SMU squad that has gone 25-10 the past three seasons under Sonny Dykes, who now takes over the reins at TCU – an hour down I-30 in Dallas. Lashlee was a quarterback at Arkansas from 2002-05 where the Hogs won 23 games and played in two bowl games. He’s worked under Gus Malzahn for a good portion of his college coaching career and looks to be a good fit for the Ponies. PLAY ON: at Tulsa (10/29) STAT YOU WILL LIKE: The Mustangs are 10-2 ATS at home versus greater than .600 opponents the past five seasons. read more: https://www.wagertalk.com/news/college-football/2022-aac-football-betting-preview-marc-lawrences-playbook/

  7. Those who utilized the Mean Green Game Day shuttle to attend UNT’s first football game of the season reported late, overcrowded shuttles. The Mean Green Game Day shuttle, which has been in use for five years, takes passengers from downtown Denton to the pedestrian bridge across from Apogee Stadium. However, on game day there were few shuttle buses running and the ones available were completely full, said Amy Fair, a 32-year-old who works in marketing and used the Mean Green Game Day shuttle to attend the UNT vs. SMU games in 2016 and this year. “We had a really good experience with the shuttle in the past and were expecting the same this time around,” Fair said. But Fair said her shuttle experience this year was the complete opposite. Fair said she waited at the Mellow Mushroom stop, the same as she did two years ago. However, this year she waited for an hour and 20 minutes at the stop, which had a sign posted reading ‘first stop.’ “But come to find out, every stop had a sign on it that said, ‘first stop,’ so that was a little confusing,” Fair said. “During that hour and 20 minutes that we were waiting, only two shuttles came by our stop, neither one of them stopped because both of them were full. So even in that amount of time we were waiting, we only saw two of the shuttles.” Fair said by 6:10 p.m. she, her husband and a couple friends had debated different options to try and get to the game from getting an Uber, waiting it out or trying to drive and find parking. But eventually they decided to go to the East Side Denton Bar to watch the game. “We didn’t even make it to the game,” Fair said. “We had to watch it on TV.” View Full Article
