  1. The only way now UNT can really compete for talented coaches now with 7 already open at this point is to have a different pitch. We can't money whip a good coach into coming here. We don't have the money now and we don't have an athletic department that knows how to campaign for the money necessary to do that. The team that is well known and available right now is the Spurrier family. You need 5 years from Steve (he is 70 now so longer than would not be wise). The names by themselves would project a stability and commitment to building something great. I think they would be interested because getting UNT to win CUSA will be much easier than trying to win an SEC title. And if South Carolina doesn't want Scott or Steve Jr as head coach. I don't believe they would be a good fit for any other positions open now except UCF. Also I think they would want to steer clear of Miami because it doesn't fit the profile of the Southern Universities they are used to dealing with. I could see Steve Jr coaching here 3 years winning 2 CUSA west division titles and moving on to a SEC school. Steve Sr. hires someone else from his coaching tree and glides off into retirement. It all just a dream and very unlikely here at UNT but that is all I have now. Can you guys think of an AD & Head Coach "Team" you would like to come to UNT. Keep in mind this "team" need to have a family connection or existing working relationship.
  2. I told you mofos that scheduling FCS opponents terrified me because of the possibility of a loss and how crippling that would be to UNT? Remember when you told me not to worry because RV would never schedule an FBS capable of beating us? Remember when I said he is RV, don't over/underestimate him? And then we suffered the worst loss in college football history to an FCS RV scheduled. Those were good times, weren't they?
  3. I find it VERY interesting that there was just about zero opposition to the banner until it was funded.I think a lot of people thought that no one cared. Guess what. You were wrong. And that's simply a fact. Nothing more. I kind of chuckle at posters who normally don't post who are now all over the board trying to stop this from happening. Commitments have been made to people who want this to happen. That isn't taken lightly. My question is: where the hell were you when we suffered the worst loss in college football history?
  4. I have obviously noticed over the past week that there is people for the banner and people against the banner... I respect that we all reserve the right to our own opinions, but we can also express our reasoning behind those opinions. To the people that have stated, "there are better ways of approaching the campaign to remove RV". I am curious as to what you all propose is the best way of handling this and will it truly be successful if we approached it that way? Maybe there is a better way to remove RV, but I personally don't see it. I feel like we are running low on fumes and this is the last effort to extinguish the dumpster fire our athletic program has been enduring.
  5. A conference foe. An equal. And they are favored like they are a P5. Yet the guy that put us here is going to pick the new coach. If this happens, it's the last straw for me. I'm sure no one cares at UNT, because they don't care if the football team loses 12 games a year, anyway. But that will do it. How a man can fail so long and keep a paycheck is just simply unbelievable. It's like it's a union job.
  6. One of those people confirmed what was reported earlier today. UNT has moved on from the committee concept. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal will lead the search. University president Neal Smatresk said today that he has a deep interest in how the search progresses and will also be involved. Villarreal indicated early on that Smatresk would be involved, so there is no real change there. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/10/coach-search-tidbits-recruiting-note.html/
  7. After 18 hours, we sit at $1300. $600 to go. Donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/qd6qjzk8#
  8. UNT is among the first schools in the country that is looking for a new coach this season after parting ways with McCarney five games into his fifth season. UNT will pay a $2.1 million buyout to McCarney, a UNT official confirmed. The school has time to consider its options, which could help in the process, one UNT hopes to have wrapped up in the next few weeks. “You don’t want to interrupt their run,” Villarreal said of coaches currently working with their teams. “That does not mean we have not started looking at who is qualified. My intention is to have someone in place right after the season is over.” There are a series of key points in college football calendar year that will arrive quickly following the Mean Green’s final game of the season, a Nov. 28 showdown with UTEP at Apogee Stadium. The midterm signing period for junior college players begins Dec. 16. “There are so many things involved,” Villarreal said. “The new coach has to hire a staff. They have to get to know the lay of the land. I want to get a coach in as soon as we can. You get into a short window with junior college players.” read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/sports-headlines/20151019-villarreal-unt-wants-offensive-minded-coach.ece
  9. DENTON -- Athletic director Rick Villarreal and school officials have taken some initial steps in their search for a coach to replace Dan McCarney, who was fired in the middle of his fifth season, including establishing some of the traits they are looking for in his replacement. "We want someone who is going to be offensive-minded, can recruit and put us in position to be successful," Villarreal said. read more: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/headlines/20151019-unt-athletic-director-knows-what-he-wants-in-next-football-coach.ece
  10. Why not? He damn sure couldn't do worse. He would find a way to fill up the stadium, much like he found a way to fill the recent alumni section when the AD had failed miserably to do the same. Marketing would improve the day he walked through the door. Coaching hires? Can't do worse. Scheduling football games? Improvement from day one. Because he would increase attendance, he wouldn't need to whore out the football team on a consistent basis. His negotiating skills are already much better than RV's at a much younger age. <kidding... But only kinda...>
  11. I'm in for $100, more if needed, if anyone wants to start one of those internet account things. Any interest?
  12. Thanks, RV: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/page/bottom10101315/made-rivalries-monday-meet-bottom-10 We will be here at least until Holloween, quite possibly even "winning" the mythical title. Thats right, it's 2007 all over again 8 F'n years later. #FireRV
  13. Just said RV should be fired. They are both UNT alums and talked about how embarrassing the Portland St game was. It seems everyone but 17 people understand the problem.
  14. He would contact Pres. Smatresk and negotiate a buy out. Just walk away before you cause a huge amount of pain to this university with what is bound to occur in the remaining home football games. This fan base is FINALLY angry. They finally reached the point of saying no more. You know how college athletics goes. You know what this will cost this university if YOU insist on drawing this thing out. You know it will be extremely ugly. Do the right and honorable thing. You have become far too polarizing a figure to effectively lead this AD. Deep down, you know it. Please, walk away and save everyone from these coming weeks. @Glad To Be Green
  15. This is a public poll. Your screen name will be known. For those lurking, the count is 79-4 at 0700 on 10/15/15. Now 98-9, with 2 suspicious keep RV votes from brand new board members with no posts, and one troll vote by TFLF (sad, it seems to be all he does these days). Now 105-9 at 1:20PM on 11/15/15 Now 116-10 at 5:00PM on 11/15/15 Now 129-10 at 07:45AM on 11/16/15 Now 142-10 at 05:25PM on 11/16/15 Now 148-11 at 11:25AM on 11/17/15
  16. Dan McCarney Relieved Of Head Coaching Duties Interim To Be Named; National Search For Replacement To Begin Immediately Oct. 10, 2015 DENTON - University of North Texas Director of Athletics Rick Villarreal has announced that Dan McCarney has been relieved of his duties as head football coach effective immediately. An interim coach for the remainder of the season will be named at a later time. A national search for his replacement will begin immediately. "This is a really a tough decision, but after a complete evaluation of the University of North Texas football program, we have decided to make a change at head coach," Villarreal said. "I will always cherish my relationship with coach McCarney and he's done nothing but great things for us in his time here, but we felt like this was the best thing we needed to do for the program moving forward." "The people here at North Texas are great, we couldn't have been embraced or supported any better during my time here," said McCarney. "Obviously we have been really struggling lately, and Rick (Villarreal) felt it was in his best interests with the University and the athletic department and the football program to go another direction. I will always be grateful to President Rawlins, Rick and President Smatresk for this opportunity." McCarney was 22-32 in his four plus seasons with North Texas and led the Mean Green to the 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl Championship.
  17. I will pay off my club seats and not be back. Ever. It will tell me that this university doesn't give a shit about winning in athletics. If the 17 value friendship over this ass beating, they can enjoy it without me. 15 years without winning shit. Lowest point EVER for this university. EVER!!!!!!!! And listening to the broadcast, it's clear RV has told the announcers to blame everything on Mac. What a POS we have for an AD.
  18. Because it needs to happen. Because we need hope. Because he CANT hire another football coach. Because he has been here 15 years and won very little of that time. Because President Smatresk is the last hope to do the right thing. Because the 17 value relationships over winning. Everyone please add your reasons and also one word to describe the athletic department currently. Mine is: DYSFUNCTIONAL.
  19. Now that we are 0-4, and especially with Portland St. this week, it's a good time to revisit. Why during Portland St. week you may ask? Well, we would have a much better shot at beating Portland St the first week of the season than we do this Saturday. Why? We would be 0-0 and would still have confidence that we SHOULD win. We would be favorites, not a home underdog on homecoming. This game should have been played week one, but our AD couldn't even find a FCS team to pay to come to UNT to open the season. Let that sink in. If we do go 0-12 this year, RV will have played a major role by giving a bad team a terrible schedule. He should be held accountable. After Portland St., the next real chance for a win is UTSA at home on Halloween. After that, only UTEP in front of 2000 people the last game of the year is winnable. Winnable doesn't mean we will win, and I expect us to lose to Craphole AGAIN at this point. UTEP is the only game I think we MIGHT win. RV's role in every aspect of this season should not be forgotten, especially the terrible schedule he spent 10 minutes throwing together.
  20. Maybe Ashton can answer this, but on a preseason podcast, Ashton mentioned that Beyond the Green was no more because the AD was going to do their own version for TV. That is the last I heard about it. I haven't seen or heard anyone on here talk about any show produced by the AD that has taken BTG's place. If Ashton sees this, maybe you could clear this up. Was the series just not picked up by Fox Sports (or whatever network it aired on) or is this the AD yet again dropping the ball on something that provided great PR and publicity for UNT football?
  21. Here is the president's email address. Keep it civil. Highlight past futile history associated with this AD. If you are thinking about withdrawing or have withdrawn financial support, let him know, and let him know how much. If we want anything done, this is the most viable way to get it done at this point. Fly has made it abundantly clear that the big donors value a personal relationship with the AD over a winning athletic program. The only response that Everyman the Fan has is through the university president. Make it happen.
  22. Is that the players quit on this thing and their coach. Portland St. will tell us a lot in this regard. If UNT loses, I really don't think we win a game the rest of the way. We have a stubborn coach who refuses to give the QB with the best arm exclusive first team practice reps, instead going with a 5th year senior who I'm certain this week will be the worst rated QB in all of FBS football. Hope and pray for good things against Portland St. If we lose, the player's interests will wonder and their confidence will be non-existent. 12 losses will be extremely hard to avoid.
  23. Are needed. AD should have been gone a year ago, needs to go now. Not at the end of the season. Now. Give the new AD a couple of months before having to hire a new football head coach this December followed by a new basketball coach next March. Thats how it's done at a FBS university. Oh wait, I forgot, we are UNT, not a FBS university. Commit or drop the F down!!!!!
  24. UNT wins 3 or less games this football season and then wins 14 or less games this basketball season. Does Rick Villerreal final face any form of consequence? Who does UNT Fire? Mac? Benford? Both? This is the scenerio staring this university president dead in the face. What should happen is all three should be let go. Clean slate for the new AD to bring in his guys to transform the two biggest sports in a morbid athletic program. Does the will exist at this university do even contemplate such an endeavor?
  25. So, now that we have a baseline for where we are at, does anyone seriously believe these games will be anything other than a blood bath for this team? I am sick and tired of giving our players absolutely zero chance to win, be it the crappiest football scheduling in FBS (and probably half of FCS, because I doubt very few FCS teams are playing 2 whore games this year) or not developing and recruiting the most important position in the field. I'm tired of whoring our young man because we have an AD that can't or won't raise enough money to fund the program properly. I'm tired of hearing promises about home and homes with FBS schools that never happen. I'm tired of being told improvement is right around the corner year after year after year yet still waiting on its arrival. UNT and athletics is the most dysfunctional relationship I have ever seen at a major business level. At some point, something needs to be done to change that relationship, or the relationship just needs to be terminated (yes, that's what I mean). We have been rocking along at least since the Dodge hire (2007) with the same dysfunction. Fix it or end the relationship.
