  1. OUTSTANDING NEWS> We are receiving confirmed reports that the new UNT stadium naming rights sponsor will be Denton-Area Teachers Credit Union (DATCU). This is reported to be a long term partnership that will be extremely beneficial to both parties. More to come! GMG LINK to the DATCU Story: https://www.datcu.org/More/Our-Story
  2. NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN The line: 6.5 Case for the over: Eric Morris knows how to win. He turned a dreadful Incarnate Word program into an FCS contender, and he hopes to take the Mean Green to the next step. And it isn’t like he inherited a roster without success. They played for a C-USA title in 2022 and former head coach Seth Littrell had the program in a bowl game almost every season. An improved offensive attack could unlock North Texas. Transfer quarterback Chandler Rogers showed his potential in the spring game. The running back room remains a strength, as does the secondary. It is possible for North Texas to start the season 5-1 or even 6-0 with an upset over Cal in Week 1. A Week 12 constes with Tulsa is also winnable. All North Texas must do is steal one from UTSA, SMU, UAB, Memphis, or Tulane to hit the over. Case for the under: Year 1 is never easy for a head football coach. The Mean Green lost starting quarterback Austin Aune and over 200 tackles from the linebacker position. The offensive line lacks true offensive tackles and the transfer portal hurt the wide receiver and defensive end position. The defense is transitioning to an odd man front and the roster might not feature enough big bodies up front to pull it off. The second half of the schedule is a brutal run. read more: https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/06/14/over-or-under-the-case-for-each-g5-program-in-texas?ref=related_thumb

  5. Seth Littrell | North Texas Total compensation: $1,897,500 Although making nearly $2 million is nothing to sneeze at outside the world of college football, North Texas’ play on the field lately doesn’t even justify Littrell making that. Hovering around .500 with a losing record in each of the last three years would be pink-slip time for most coaches. Plus, Littrell has lost all five of his bowl games. He came into 2022 with the oldest starting quarterback in the nation with a chance to make some noise in Conference USA. Should the Mean Green fail to show significant progress, the buyout would be $1.575 million if he is relieved of his duties on Dec. 1. 6. I wanted to share a couple of inside notes on this remarkable Bleed Green story that North Texas fans will appreciate as we head into tonight’s match against Wichita State on a national television audience (ESPN2)at 8PM. There is an amazing story of how they were able to get to this point (win or lose tonight) and it is something North Texas fans should be extremely proud of. North Texas alumnus and donor David Anderson played in the annual Don January golf tournament back in May of 2022. Former UNT player DJ Draper was on his team. The two exchanged business cards and promised to stay in touch. Former UNT player JJ Murray came up with the idea of fielding a North Texas team in the The Basketball Tournament 2022 (TBT) several years ago and got together with DJ Draper after this season to discuss in more detail. The two then came together and started the application process and reached out to find a general manager and financial support. TBT is an open-application, single-elimination tournament played each summer in the United States. The 2022 edition features 64 teams with a $1 million winner-take-all prize, broadcast by ESPN. TBT was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Mugar. It is difficult to get a team in the tourney as any team that wins one game in the prior year gets an auto bid so there are limited spots available. >300 Teams are applying for basically about 30 slots. UNT was one of the last ones to get in. DJ started working on how the team could get funded for travel and expenses and remembered David and called to set up lunch. During lunch David immediately agrees to help support the team and starts making calls to donors etc. Bleed Green were big underdogs in both of their first games against Eberlin and K-State. At this point, if UNT as the underdog again (-7.5) wins tonight against the Wichita State team, ESPN will pick up the tab on future travel and operational expenses. Absolutely NO ONE is preparing to the level that this UNT squad is in terms of game film and practices etc. They are all working so hard and putting in super long hours in terms of practice and preparation. It has truly been a team effort and is a really neat story on how this group came together in such a short period of time to become so successful. A good and loyal group of boosters have again come to financially support North Texas in this situation. This includes but is not limited to, Ernie Kuehne, Don Loveless, The McNatt brothers, Mike and David Riley, David Vanderlaan, C. Dan Smith and of course David and Julie Anderson. Coach McCasland is flying in for the game tonight. GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. (This is the second in a series previewing the Group of 5 conferences based on their O/U win totals, as provided by Draftkings. For the AAC Preview, click here.) With all the talk of realignment, college football is going to look at lot different in the future. But in Conference USA, the future is now. Gone are Marshall and Old Dominion, choosing to take their talents to the Sun Belt. Leaving for the AAC after this year are UTSA, UAB, Charlotte, North Texas, Rice, FAU. Arriving after this year are Liberty, New Mexico St., Jacksonville St. and Sam Houston St. Got all that? There are a lot of questions that can be asked that will make this last season of C-USA as we know it interesting? What will UTSA do for an encore? What will UAB look like without Bill Clark at the helm? Can Western Kentucky’s offense come close to producing at the level they did last year? Will there be any bad blood between the teams leaving and the teams left behind? The answers will reveal themselves over time, but as for now, here’s how I would bet these teams (based on lines provided by DraftKings as of July 10). North Texas (O/U 6.5) – On October 23, 2021, the Mean Green were 1-6, with only a season opening win against Northwestern St. on their resume. Seth Littrell was possibly coaching for his life heading into a game against Rice. But to quote Michael Scott, my how the turntables have turned. North Texas beat the Owls in overtime, and at that point, everything clicked. They won the rest of their regular season games, including crushing the dreams of Roadrunner Nation by ending UTSA’s undefeated season. That was enough to make the AAC, a conference they will be joining in 2023, take notice. They did all this behind the #5 rushing attack in the nation and steady if not unspectacular quarterback play by Austin Aune. Whether it was a timely hot streak or the start of something sustainable could be answered Week Zero, when they open the season with a conference game at UTEP. Honestly, I tend to think it was the former. Taking a closer look at the Mean Green, while they will still have a formidable rushing attack, they do lose 1,200-yard rusher DeAndre Torrey, their entire front four and every safety who started last year. And while Aune was the man to right the ship behind center, he still finished with 9 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 9 games. He has to cut down on turnovers. The schedule is more than tricky. The first five games contains only one gimme (against Texas Southern) and four games that could swing either way (at UTEP, SMU, at UNLV, at Memphis). In fact, the Mean Green also plays UTSA, UAB and Western Kentucky all on the road. Expecting a 7-5 record with that schedule is asking a lot. Take the Under. read more: https://thewalkonredshirts.com/2022/07/11/predicting-the-futures-conference-usa/
  8. 6. North Texas The Mean Green overcame a 1-6 start by winning their last five regular-season games (including a win over undefeated UTSA) to earn the program’s fifth bowl trip in six years under coach Seth Littrell. But after an 18-9 mark from 2017-18, North Texas is only 14-21 over the last three seasons and the pressure is building on Littrell. A step forward in ’22 will require more consistency out of the passing game (197.1 yards a contest last fall), which could come in the form of Memphis/Arizona transfer Grant Gunnell after he joined the mix to push Austin Aune after spring ball. The Mean Green are deep at running back – a unit bolstered by promising sophomore Oscar Adaway III returning from an ACL tear to join Ikaika Ragsdale and Ayo Adeyi. Players returning from ailments also boost the receiving corps with Tommy Bush and Jyaire Shorter joining Damon Ward and Roderic Burns to form a standout receiving corps. Four starters return along an offensive line that should rank among the best in the conference. The hire of veteran play-caller Phil Bennett had a massive impact on North Texas’ defense last fall. In 2020, this unit surrendered 6.94 yards per snap and 42.8 points a game but cut those totals to 27.5 a contest and 5.7 yards a play. Improving on those numbers will require replacing ends Grayson and Gabriel Murphy (transferred to UCLA) and tackle Dion Novil. Linebacker KD Davis is among Conference USA’s top returning defenders for ’22. Key swing games against Louisiana Tech, FAU and Rice take place in Denton. 9. North Texas Mean Green Preview 2022 Is Seth Littrell ready to take North Texas into a new era? He’s a young head coach who was a hot name in the overall mix after two straight nine win seasons in 2017 and 2018, but three straight losing seasons and a 14-21 record since then changed the perception. His teams can crank up the offense, improved a bit on defense, and at least got to bowl games in five of his six seasons at the helm. Granted, the Mean Green lost all five of the bowls, but he got there. Now North Texas is gearing up for live in the American Athletic Conference next year. The league might be a shadow of its former self with the stars taking off, but it’s still a big step for the program and the university. This year, with a few schools taking off early for the Sun Belt, and with a loaded offense coming back, this is when the team and program should rise back up again. The tough schedule might have something to say about that, but in Year Seven, this is when North Texas needs to be the team everyone else fears. And it will be because of the … read more: https://collegefootballnews.com/2022/06/north-texas-mean-green-preview-2022-season-prediction-breakdown-key-games-players/amp
  10. DENTON, Texas – North Texas Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for the university’s student-athletes covering all the Mean Green’s 16 sports. Joining an exclusive list of Division I TBG partners, the University of North Texas now affords its student-athletes the opportunity to combine their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) with official trademarks and logos as part of the group licensing program. “We are happy to announce today a partnership with The Brandr Group and open the door to group licensing opportunities for our student-athletes as the next phase of Paramount, our name, image and likeness program,” UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “This relationship reinforces our commitment to Building Champions and Preparing Leaders here at UNT and will allow our student-athletes to participate in exciting opportunities in the ever-changing and growing landscape of NIL. “We believe this program will provide multiple advantages to our student-athletes and create new avenues for our tremendous fans to support the Mean Green. We are incredibly excited about this next phase, and we will continue to explore additional ways to grow opportunities here at UNT.” The partnership with TBG allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with University of North Texas logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes, and the program does not limit individual NIL rights. Potential licensees interested in learning more should contact Jim Neish at TBG. TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space. The company will develop and facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of current student-athletes. Some examples of group licensing include athlete’s inclusion in trading card programs, video games, and co-branded jerseys, which would include the student-athlete’s name and number, as well as University of North Texas trademarks and logos. “NIL opens up new avenues for student-athletes across college sports, and this group licensing agreement with the University of North Texas will enable its athletes to take advantage of this new environment,” said Rick Perko, Vice President of Program Development at TBG. “Through co-branded opportunities across the University of North Texas’ merchandising and sponsor portfolio, Mean Green student-athletes can benefit from their NIL. We’re excited to be working together to bring this new program to life for University of North Texas student-athletes, as well as their passionate fans who now have new ways to support their favorite players.” While no specific timeline is set, fans can expect to be able to purchase official University of North Texas merchandise as soon as TBG enters into agreements with applicable University of North Texas trademark licensees. About The Brandr Group The Brandr Group (TBG) is a brand management, marketing and licensing agency powered by a team with decades of collective management experience for some of the world’s largest brands.
