  1. I have 2 windows in my office that face the never-ending parade of students headed to the outstretches of the U. I witnessed an increase in the amount of black UNT branded apparel across the campus since "The Stand". In addition, I got my hair cut next to Danny Mac at the Campus barbershop in Downtown Denton. While there he said, "this team has a lot of growl". He then went on to say that it didn't have enough, but it has a lot. He meant to win a national championship, which is his goal. All that to say, this CAMPUS has a lot of "growl", of late, and I like it. It looks tough; it looks like a college campus! GMG!
  2. The Bill Simmons creation gives the Green some love.... In other news, what the heck is Coach Mac doing?
  3. Myself, like a few buddies I know, I have some commitments that unfortunately preclude us from going to the game in person. However, that doesn't mean we wont be watching the game. For those who can't make it to Denton, there will be a small crowd at Ringo's in Plano at the Shops at Legacy, and we are working on an Uptown location (maybe Christie's? Maybe Pop Diner- great place for kids fyi) Just a heads up. GMG. (B)eat Rice. God Bless America. I love lamp.
  4. FINALLY got confirmation that we will be able to get the broadcast out here. So we're meeting at Zipp's Sports Grill at Ray & McClintock in Chandler, for anyone who will be in Arizona on Saturday. Sorry for the late notice, but I literally got the news at lunch time today that we would be able to view the game.

  6. So I finally got verification that the game will not be televised live at all, on cable, DISH, DirecTV, or online streaming out here. It will be replayed 4 hours later but I'm not setting up an event for a game that's already over because that would be LAME. If there are any last minute changes that make it feasible to view the game in AZ I'll post here right away for anyone who might be in the area. Of course, if anyone else hears anything please add it here as well. A last-minute event is better than none at all if the opportunity opens up. But next week's MTSU game will be streamed online via ULive so we're good to go for that one, already have a reservation in place
  7. In this episode we talk with North Texas Athletic Director Rick Villareal. 100 years of NT football, scheduling and other topics are discussed.....Yes the throwback uniform is discussed..... Direct Link gmg..... This post has been promoted to an article
  8. North Texas, making the jump from the Sun Belt along with FAU, FIU, La. Tech and MTSU, definitely holds the title for the most unique nickname out of all the C-USA schools. They actually got it as a derivation of the nickname of one of its most famous alumni, Pro Football Hall of Famer “Mean Joe” Greene, who actually got his nickname while in the NFL. Turns out green (obviously) is the school color of North Texas, so their fans began to refer to the team as the “Mean Green”. Of course, “Mean Joe” is known outside of sports circles for this: read more: http://pickaxedigest.com/2013/06/22/countdown-to-conference-usa-get-to-know-north-texas/
  9. Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin talked about Kelvin Gaines decision to transfer to UNT today with Bill Koch of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Cronin echoed what UNT head coach Tony Benford expressed yesterday. Cronin said that Gaines is a good guy and a great student who needed to move on to find more playing time. Transferring is a good move for him, Cronin said. He did a great job academically. Im extremely proud of him. Hes a wonderful young man. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2013/06/cincinnati-coach-has-high-praise-for-gaines.html/
  10. visit to Florida earlier this month wasn’t just a trip to the beach for Deja McKnight. Well, that was part of the experience, but McKnight and her University of North Texas women’s track and field teammates definitely earned a little fun in Miramar, Fla. North Texas won the Sun Belt Conference Championships women’s team title for the second consecutive year May 12 at Florida International’s Ansin Sports Complex. A 2011 Odessa High School graduate, McKnight finished her sophomore season for the Mean Green by finishing second in the women’s shot put. It was McKnight’s top individual conference finish, and the fourth time in as many tries she has scored at championship meets — Indoor and Outdoor — for North Texas. “That was exciting,” McKnight said of the performance in Florida. “Everybody wants a ring. It’s the meet we all focus on so we can get a ring.” The North Texas women accomplished that last season for the first time since 2003 when McKnight was a freshman. She scored two points with a seventh-place finish in shot put, aiding the team’s four-point victory margin. This season’s spread was a more comfortable 20.5 points, but McKnight’s eight points earned again were vital and she is in the center of North Texas’ celebration photos with the team trophy on meangreensports.com. That is no mistake, according to North Texas throws coach Pete Abbey. Read more: http://www.oaoa.com/sports/local/article_35c1f1a8-c1c3-11e2-afa8-0019bb30f31a.html
  11. Hey folks, So a user named TexaninNYC and I will are participating in a grand series of Reddit/r/CFB threads that is covering 139 college football teams in as many days to fill the time before the 2013 season. Essentially, fans are asked to go in depth and profile their alma maters in glorious Reddit fashion for all the upvotes, praise and discussion of 47,000 Redditors in the College Football subreddit. Example, today's profile of the Tulane Green Wave: http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/1bnz54/132_teams_in_132_days_the_tulane_green_wave/ Rather than attempt to compile all of the information required myself (w/Tex'n'NYC), I figured why not open it up and crowd-source this? So, if you have anything in particular you want mentioned in this format, please do not hesitate to PM me. We have some time to make this good - they obviously did not take much of the conference realignment picture into their scheduling, and thus we've been lumped to present with the rest of the Sun Belt in early July. Ugh, I know. So anywho, fire away!
