LEHIGH ACRES, FLORIDA – It wasn't pretty. There were plenty of penalties and many mistakes. Still, it was a district win for the Lehigh Senior High School football team. But that wasn't the most important part of Friday's 19-14 victory over Charlotte. Two weeks ago, these teams weren't sure if they would get to play football again this season. They weren't even sure if their schools would be able to reopen following the devastation of Hurricane Ian. So the victory was big for Lehigh players. I just heard from the ENMU Head Coach Tye Hiatt. He was very warm and supportive. He said that Kason will join them this summer and have two years of eligibility. He said that they had high expectations! I am pleased. The Coach said he could help us get tickets for us to see him play. Good news for a good young man indeed. GMG

Feb. 13, 2018 DENTON - In some respect, it's a good thing Kason Martin left Manvel when he did. The freshman quarterback enrolled early at UNT just two weeks after playing in one of the most talked about high school football games in history. He said he couldn't walk around town without people asking him about the game - the Class 5A Division I state championship game, which his team lost in heartbreaking fashion after coming up literally a yard short of winning as time expired. He figured with a relocation to Denton, he'd be able to walk around campus without people asking him about the game that was still weighing heavily on his mind. He was wrong. One of his first days in Denton found him eating in the cafeteria at his new dormitory when an upperclassman student-athlete came up to him. "Hey, you're that Manvel quarterback, right?
