CUSA has established a " Futures Planning Committee" chaired by the A.D. from ODU. Their mission is to determine meaningful ways to reduce expenses, especially travel costs, with all ideas on the table. One way that may be considered is adding two additional members to create 8 team divisions which would allow 7 divisional games to be played. I assume the interconference games will be more geographically friendly. At present CUSA football is ranked 9th out of 10 conferences ahead of only the MAC, so the SBC would be a step up.This report was due out the end of April but has yet to be released.

The groundswell of support for the University of Houston’s bid to join the Big 12 Conference seemed to come out of nowhere. For two decades, the Cougars' major athletic conference dreams seemed hopeless. Then on July 21, Gov. Greg Abbott declared on Twitter that Big 12 expansion was a “non-starter” without UH. Within hours, more state politicians, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and leaders of other Texas Big 12 schools were voicing their support, too. Suddenly, the idea of UH rejoining the highest possible level of college athletics didn’t seem so far-fetched. The show of support for UH was surprising and impressive. So SMU is being mentioned as a possible Big 12 addition. The Texas Attorney General and others have shown support for your candidacy. How about you show the Big 12 how well your fans support the program through your attendance to games? Last time we played you in Denton it was frankly embarrassing how few fans you brought. There were plenty of excuses like the game time being too early, the heat, June Jones. Programs that are looking to move up the food chain don't make these type of petty excuses. We brought a respectable crowd to the Hilltop last year, so now is a good time to repay us. This is essentially a home game for you guys. You can do better than 150 fans!

President and chancellors from Sun Belt Conference schools will meet Sunday in Dallas to vote on extending a possible membership invitation, it’s been learned. It’s known that Coastal Carolina and Eastern Kentucky have been under consideration, and that current football-only member New Mexico State remains a candidate for full-fledged membership. All three schools were paid on-campus visits by Sun Belt reps at some point earlier this year, including two this month. Seventy-five percent approval is required to issue an invite, however, so it’s also possible that no bid will go out. What criteria are considered could impact any favorable vote. Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson said when the league held its annual football Media Day last month in New Orleans that the membership matter is “no longer a football issue.” It once was, as prior focus for some had been on getting to 12 teams for football so that the conference could stage a revenue-generating football title game. “As we now go forward, and expecting that the NCAA will roll back the policy that requires 12 teams to do a conference football championship game,” Benson said, “we are no longer driven by a football championship game when it comes to our future membership. Just looking at some of the stadium stuff...Baylor, UofH, K state, etc....so , how long, if ever, before UNT expands Apogee with a Deck and add'l suites on the student side....of course we have to get attendance up, win games, etc...all of these necessary for consideration of a more major conference opportunity...a larger stadium would also be necessary....so....how long before we put the pieces together and expand the stadium,....2-3 yrs, 5-7 yrs, 10-12 yrs,,,never...? and why do you feel this way. OK...after reading a few hostile post, perhaps I should rephrase this as....do you feel the current plan in place will create the demand for add'l seats/suites in the future and if so, how long would that be..2-3 yrs, 5-7 yrs...etc...I'm am not advocating expansion of the stadium...interested in what people think about the current situation and how long before DEMAND outstrips SUPPLY of available seating/suites...creating a need to expand...if ever. (will attendance increase next year, will season ticket sales increase, etc)
