  2. Louisiana Tech has called a noon Friday news conference to "make a historic announcement about the future of La. Tech athletics.'' The school will announce its acceptance of membership into Conference USA at that time. 5. MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Florida International University will leave the Sun Belt Conference and join Conference USA next year, according to CBSSports.com. The Panthers will join Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Texas San Antonio, Charlotte, and Old Dominion in the new Conference USA which will eventually have 14 members. Charlotte and Old Dominion’s membership in football likely won’t start in 2013. Conference USA was cannibalized late last year during conference realignment. C-USA lost Houston, Southern Methodist, Central Florida, and Memphis to the Big East when Missouri and Texas A&M joined the SEC and Pittsburgh and Syracuse jumped to the Atlantic Coast Conference. Conference USA will keep a presence in Florida by adding FIU and will still have two schools in Texas along with Rice. C-USA also has Marshall, East Carolina, Southern Miss, UAB, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTEP. Read More: http://miami.cbslocal.com/2012/05/01/report-fiu-heading-to-conference-usa-in-2013/

  10. Will miss Hot Springs but at least we get a last run this year with what should be a pretty good team (fingers crossed). Of course this is projected on the news reports and not finalized but... It sounds like CUSA bids it out every year and it has been in Memphis and El Paso. Mountain West does Vegas. They will have to keep it separate as an alliance until/if the merger is finalized. Any thoughts on a good place to have it in the schools basketball tourney? San Antonio jumps out as a great place to have it.

  13. Bump'd From the FanPosts- Conference Realignment isn't going anywhere and this is a nice perspective on why UTEP might be interested in the MWC. - AM Sorry I haven't been around as much, bitching about UT has taken up the majority of my time lately, couple that with the chaos in the Mountain West, and finals I haven't kept tabs over here. First let me be frank, the MWC's TV contract is HORRIBLE they must do something to change it to have a prayer at taking ANY Conference USA team. Second lets make some assumptions: 1st Hawaii and a non-football school (like Denver) join the Mountain West 2nd Utah St joins to keep the Mtn. on in Utah and the SLC market and adds excellent basketball 3rd another team WILL be added either from CUSA or the dieing WAC That leaves the Mountain West with only a few reasonable options because adding anyone (besides UTEP) in the state of Texas will only increase travel costs and have little market saturation. TCU has been great but people in Texas don't watch, and yes I blame some of that on the TV contract. Most MWC fans want UTEP, for their kick ass basketball, El Paso media market, history with WAC/MWC schools, great attendance numbers, and their improving football program. That leads me to why I think UTEP should join the Mountain West Conference. Read more: http://www.minerrush.com/2010/12/1/1850237/why-utep-should-join-the-mountain-west

  15. Would be kind of cool to have a CUSA Texas Cup trophy in football and basketball awarded to the team with the best record among the Texas contingent of CUSA which - according to reports - will be four teams strong (RICE, UTEP, North Texas and UTSA). Obviously this could also be applied to other sports that the schools in Texas participate in. Would definitely make the games more interesting!

  20. MURFREESBORO — Conference USA has reportedly begun to make its selection of new members, and thus far MTSU has not appeared on the shopping list. Texas-San Antonio accepted an invitation in principle to CUSA on Saturday, as reported by CBSsports.com. Sun Belt Conference members Florida International and North Texas and Western Athletic Conference member Louisiana Tech are reportedly the likely three remaining suitors for CUSA’s expansion for 2013, and Charlotte could be a future fifth addition, if needed. If true, that would leave MTSU on the outside looking in for inclusion into CUSA, perceived as a better option than the Sun Belt, where the Blue Raiders have been since 2001. http://www.tennessean.com/article/D4/20120428/BLUERAIDERS01/304280053/Reports-MTSU-not-CUSA-immediate-plans?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CSports%7Cs
  21. SAN ANTONIO -- Conference USA is set to bring aboard Texas-San Antonio ahead of a planned merger with the Mountain West that would create a new league with as many as 24 schools. The University of Texas System Board of Regents has scheduled a vote for Wednesday, and chancellor Francisco Cigarroa has recommended approving the move only months before UTSA is set to begin its first season in the Western Athletic Conference. Football coach Larry Coker and UTSA officials apparently began having reservations about the WAC, telling regents that three other WAC members have declared their intentions to defect. Football coach Larry Coker and UTSA officials apparently began having reservations about the WAC, telling regents that three other WAC members have declared their intentions to defect. The agenda does not reveal which of the remaining football-playing WAC schools -- Utah State, Idaho, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Texas State or San Jose State -- plan to depart. "Joining CUSA ... will provide greater national visibility and association with universities of similar enrollment, academic standing and community size," the agenda item reads. read more: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7866383/utsa-roadrunners-poised-exit-wac-conference-usa
